Baldur's Gate.

I have probably started that game a dozen times over the years. I have purchased it on three separate occasions. The result is always the same. A few hours in and I am ready to move onto something else.

Baldurs Gate 2 moves along at a much better pace.
But neither game appeals to the mass market. They're niche games for hardcore D&D fans.

Baldurs Gate is about as close to playing a table top game of D&D as a human can possibly get on the computer. (Aside from those online programs that let people play around the world).

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Oblivion and Skyrim both need to be modded up. At release they are pretty but empty and sort of mindless. I'm a dozen hours or so into a new game of Skyrim with a ton of immersion mods and it's like a completely different game.

FTL - Too damn hard. As I understand it, you can't win at this game without using boarding parties.....and that wasn't a tactic I found appealing.

Stacking. I tried to like the uniqueness of this game. I failed.

Psychonauts. It just ended up being too cartoony for me.

Legend of Grimrock. I tried to love this game. I really did. I just couldn't complete it. It got too repetitious. I'll probably try to give this another go in the future.

Forgot to mention... Jet Grind Radio (Jet Set Radio to some). I liked the art pretty well and the concept but the execution and controls didn't feel good.

Metro 2033: I've only played a couple hours of it. Good game but just haven't gotten any farther than that.

ArmA III: Haven't played anything because the infantry demo and the heli demo (hilariously, I fucking suck at piloting) cause I'm terrible. I ain't writing this off yet, though.

Rise of Flight: Have only been up in a plane once but this is another one that I'm not writing off yet. I have TrackIR and pedals (and HOTAS) to go with this, and I'm interested in actually taking flight lessons, so I'd still like to get into this more.

There are dozens, but the one that sticks out most to me is Mass Effect.

Mass Effect is an example of an extremely popular game series that I always hear people raving about, so I've tried to get into it like 5 different times and each time I get bored with it. Finally I realized that it's just probably not for me.

Ooh. Mass Effect 1 took a bit of time since it was a few years old by the time I got into it but I was so hooked into the story I couldn't stop.

I bought a bunch of Steam discount games that I could never get into.

Batman Arkham Asylum
Bioshock 1
Watch Dogs (Game kept crashing and I got over it)
STALKER
Portal
Splinter Cell Blacklist (Never liked the Xbox original either)
Assassin's Creed Black Flag

FTL. I agree. I think I brought it to the attention of the forum based on positive reactions but didn't find it fun myself and barely played a few games.

Stacking, I do like the unique gameplay and some design things and had fun, but only played up to the ship and haven't played since.

Psychonauts, I'd really like to like that game for being a creative game but just did not find it enjoyable. I was in some WWI nightmare or something and didn't play more.

Legend, that one I have to say go back to it. It's just a great puzzle RPG. But even there, I have to say, while I thought it was great for a playthrough, I had almost no desire to play it again with other classes or even the character unlocked when you finish. Kind of strange how It goes from great playing to I don't want to play that again.

I do plan to go back to stacking.

I forgot a few...

GRID 2 - I despise drifting so this game will forever remain unfinished.
Thief (new one) - Played like 2 levels and hated it, nothing like the great old games.
Evochron Mercenary - Got this to get me back into space sims for Star Citizen... oh man is this HARD!!!
Star Wars The Force Unleashed II - The first one was fun but this one is more of a chore, it's like they lost the desire to make the game after the first month.

Portal - After spending some time solving a few puzzles in silence, I shut it off and never launched it again.

As for the comments about FTL, I disagree with probably everything that I've read. I've beat the game with nearly every ship and have every unlock using just about every possible strategy. You can't always pick your strategy though, you have to use the cards that you are dealt. It's a tough game, making you constantly weigh the odds against purchasing one weapon over another or over a crew member or over a ship upgrade. You have to finesse your way through the first half of the game until you have the desired equipment to pull a strategy together. My assessment would be that you need to get an overwhelming offense as quickly as possible as it makes up for a poor defense ten fold. You absolutely need to get a defense drone before you get too far though to take out missiles. Going full engines and cloak can be a viable alternative with a well-trained pilot if you never get lucky enough to get a defense drone.

I guess it doesn't matter. An opinion is an opinion. :p

Witcher series. They just feel clunky and horrible. I am sure I could get used to how it works but I just can't be bothered. I managed to play the first game longer then the second and had a better time with it. Weird.

Metro 2033. Again, this game feels really clunky and does not hold my attention for long.

Hitman: Absolution. Same as Metro.

Saints Row the Third. I used up all my money ingame before I was supposed to and couldn't buy the item that progressed the game. I couldn't be bothered restarting the game so I just quit.

Some stupid we-wish-we-were-as-good-as-Homeworld space RTS game called Gemini Wars. Good thing it was only $4 on steam... it was garbage.

Here's what I'd compare that to:

I kissed a girl a couple times, but didn't go any further to find out what this 'sex' stuff is.

I thought the original portal was great, a short, unexpected treasure with interesting puzzles and great humor. However, I thought the style and gameplay was less well suited to a longer game like Portal 2. Both the puzzles and humor were getting stale to me by the end of the game. A friend and I both started Portal 2, he didnt even finish it, while I did finish, but it was more like work than fun by the end of the game.

Sometimes you get games in packs that you have no intention of playing, like Team Fortress and countless other MP games I have no interest in but got with other titles I did want. Plus there's the odd indie pack where there's a few games you don't want but get anyway.

Saying that I did impulse buy Bioshock 2 & Infinite even though I have never and may never install them.

Hipsters unite! hate what is popular! While we all like different things this thread looks like it full of "I hate the #1 sellers" but i guess that is the world now, its trendy to hate what the market likes..

I Do understand somewhat, never liked Halo, strip me to 2 guns, show me 10, make only 2 useful so I don't hate the ability to just carry 2. take a semi serious game, throw in 3 stooges low level enemies, Hi jinks ensue!.. like a bad movie. use the same bridge, square turn, base blocks over and over and over.. what base has 9 turns to get to a room when a straight corridor would work?

But of all, Res Evil on the PS1, i wanted it so bad, got it found out it was a timing game, Dragons lair of a sort, play, die over and over til you "know" what will happen so you can beat it.. what fun is there in that? If i cant beat it with some skill its not a game (doom 3 and its closet monsters was plagued by this).

Did you mean Portal 2? You said Portal. I have nothing against Portal 2, but I started it and didn't play far either, not because it wasn't a good game, just 'didn't feel like it'.

Far Cry 3. The whole story is so god damn childish it was patronizing at times.

Assassins Creed. Should be renamed to MyShittySons Weed cause that's how bad I am tripping when I am playing this game.

Batman Origins- Didn't feel the same as the other two, clunky, and story wise just not up to par.

Total war games after Rome: Total War - Lost complete interest, just couldnt get into them anymore, not sure why.

Fallout New Vegas - Tried to play it for the first time recently...just looks ugly and felt old. Don't know how or what I saw in Fallout 3.

Grand Theft Auto IV - Never really got past a certain point and didn't feel captivated to go any further.

Tons more...trying to remember.
