so much money is being wasted on your CPU, motherboard, and RAM. you can spend HUNDREDS less and get BETTER performance. i just hate seeing that money go down the drain and i hope you realize it. 🙁

Thanks man i now starting to realize it.

Ghz do not determine how fast a processor is. Look at your intel at 3.2, it gets smacked by AMD "only" running at 2.0 in games.

We can't give you a number for sure for how much it would overclock, but yeah, it will be significantly faster in games than a 640 would be.

Is this the ram you were planning?

You can get a gig of ram for that much that would be great for an A64. If you were planning on getting a gig of that OCZ, you could get two gigs of valueram for A64 and get a great performance increase in some games now (and I'm sure it would help a lot in upcoming games).

Are you looking for a silent powersupply?

If so, I would highly recommend Seasonic.
They have great efficiency and are extremely quiet.

yes thats the ram and i care about other things such as video edition and doing some 3DMax 7, PS CS2, Corel Draw 12, and other cpu hungry softwares

GTX is not Ultra as the inquirer said Ultra is in their sleeves wight now. but my other source said next one will be G72+GT and then G7X= regular

I bought a 3200+ venice and it clocks (so far) to 2.7 GHz. That's a $260 CAD chip that I turned into something that's faster than a $1200 CAD FX-55. The only stock thing out there that can really beat this o/cd $260 cpu is the brand new $1500 CAD FX-57. Some intel procs might in a few benchmarks, but those are all $1000 chips too. Dual core in multitasking will do better, but I mean, to have something that costs so little be in the same league...

thanks now i might just change it to that.

so tell me something do u use any type of software as i just listed above? and does it work nicely?

According to the benchmarks on the Anandtech article here:

Anandtech 3D App Benches

The P4 640 did not compete well against the A64 3400+ so a 3700+ at stock would put that processor down. If you overclocked it and were lucky enough to hit 3.8 Ghz, you are in the same ball park as the stock 3800+ or 3700+. So an overclocked AMD 3700+ should outperform the intel.

Now if you are doing lots of high-end multitasking like 3D rendering, I can see where the P4 would have a perceptible advantage, but that advantage can be nullified by the sheer output advantage of the A64 architecture. Obviously an X2 would beat any of these options and with the 3800+ X2 on the horizon that should be your processor of choice (and should be in your price range).

I personally do not do much 3D studio max work, but I do use photoshop and Microsoft Visual Studio .Net (now 2003) on a daily basis without issues on my A64 3500+ @ 2.77 Ghz. (effectively 4200++) on a MSI Neo4 SLI Platinum motherboard. I also have a dell Optiplex GX280 with a P4 640 and it cannot even come in the same ball park as my AMD Box.

I don't use any of that software, but I do a lot of other cpu intensive stuff. Some video encoding, I've played with rendering (used to take some 3dmax classes), gaming, seti@home, gentoo linux (lots of source compiling). The thing flies.

I've got superpi benches equal to a 4.0 prescott.

edit: those benches came when I was messing around with the internet and had seti@home running too... People with A64s at 2.7 GHz actually beat those times too.

Yeah the 3700+ kicks arse🙂 I have mine clocked at 2.8ghz which would roughly equal a P4 running a 4.5-4.6ghz. It eats P4's for a small snack:laugh:

roughly and simply amd model number of 3700 corresponds to the pentium of 3.7ghz

screw that board go for DFI.. save $70...
u gonna only spend $100 on monitor?... u lookin at crt?

Glad that you are coming to understand that Ghz arent the key factor in performance anymore. AMD's clocked much lower outperform much higher clocked Pentiums. Its about the circuitry inside the chips that is more important.

But... sorry to say, i dont believe your starting college anytime soon. I mean i know that people have typos and sometimes incoherent sentences online, like possibly me right now, but from you posts you dont sound like your more than 15 years old. Horrendous grammar and just pure structure overall and not too mention the n00bness slamming AMD because of lower ghz before you did any research AT ALL.

I forgot to mention that thread title as well - My Ultimate Ultimate "Will Be Comp" when i start college!!!.

So when are you starting college? In 4 or 5 years when this computer you made will be outdated?

Edit - That makes sense foreigner (jk), reply underneath ;p and sorry then. Dont take my above comments personally, didnt know of your situation.

Good Point the truth is that i came from different country 3 years ago and yes im going to college in fall 2005 study Pharm/Chem.
