I may revisit the newer ones seeing MPG has improved as well. The Shelby's are at least different enough from the base models, the recaros look nice. Some of the ergonomics I don't really care for in though...power port in the center of the upper air vents, door handle design on the inside...pebble-look dash.

Let's just say, it look 1000x better than a Charger.

Reading your other thread/threads you discounted a lot of cars because you had decided it had to be a four door for dogs. Thats obviously off the table now looking at the S5 and M3 choices. Seems like you really don't know what you want from this car yet because you keep changing your mind. Why don't you try and nail down the criteria for everyone and yourself instead of just coming up with a list of what you do an don't like about whatever cars you're thinking about? Without that I don't think we can give you any helpful advice.

So 2 door or 4?
Engine type matter? V6 - V8?
any horsepower reqs?
Mileage matter? Regular vs premium?
Full size/mid size?

It seems like you're buying this car more for the enjoyment factor than the utility of it. So it's a toy first and vehicle second. I think a Charger is more of a compromise between toy vs utility than the other two cars and in the end, you'll find yourself wishing you went for the Audi or BMW in retrospect. I still think you should be considering the vette though.

Anyhow, we are all massively enjoying your mid life crisis. Carry on.

Wow an 08 S5 is of similar value on the used market as an 06 M3?

Shows you how fast Audis depreciate.

A5/S5 has the highest resale in its segment. A 2006 M3 definitely costs less than a 08 S5. I'd rather buy the '06 M3...but that is a different matter.

Never said it had to be a four door for dogs. I do want a back seat for at least getting 3-4 adults to a lunch or dinner (short distances).

I have already listed my specs wanted in other threads here that you have replied in.

~<5 secs 0-60...13ish quarter or better.

gas doesn't really matter within reason, but trying for 22+ highway.

Not a major insurance hit so older exotics are out of the running.

How are these mid-life crisis cars? I am already driving what's a borderline track car as a daily driver already. I am looking to get into something with more creature comforts and a nicer ride for day to day.

My commute has gone from 3 miles to 30miles.

Yeah it's personal choice for sure. The Audi is beautiful and the interior is the best I've seen of the type for luxury+sport. I do prefer the sound of the BMW i6 though, and I have a soft spot for the somewhat minimalist functional design of the interior. I also find that AWD + weight tends to reduce my enjoyment of a car somewhat, not as much as FWD, but it still makes a difference to me. And nothing reduces my enjoyment of a car more than dealing with $$$ repairs. BMW is not great in this regard, and Audi is slightly worse (comparing S and RS models to M models), just because there's typically more tech to worry over. I know of an earlier model RS6 that just sits collecting dust because it ate it's 2nd transmission, and literally everything else on the car, including the motor, is perfect.

In fairness to DivideByZero, I don't really see the point of threads like this. You've listed three very different cars that you say you're considering. You're an automotive enthusiast and thus probably not really interested in people's input about them, and you react with complete hostility toward most comments anyway. This is now your second thread on the same topic. Really, what is your objective in posting this in the first place?

I restate my opinion that you should get the SRT, especially if you can get a brand new one. You'll have the confidence that it's never been beaten on, you'll get the new higher fuel economy, more power, improved interior, fresh look, it's kind of a rare car in SRT guise, the SRTs seem to be built very well, plenty of room, etc, etc. I love the look of the S5, and just love BMW M models from bumper to bumper, but new warrantied 0-miles SRT for the duty you describe sounds good to me.

Hardly...and I am interested in input. Except not like your's or the others that are thinly-hiding insults in their replies.

You do realize, I mean...it's probably a big stretch for you; that you do not have to comment on threads you don't care for right?

The SRT8 I like is not the new one. It'd be a 2010, I could find one with less than 10k miles pretty easy around here. I really can't stand the new body style...that scalloped side and the squarish headlights ruin the look.

In the low mileage examples of any of the cars I'd be looking at, I am not too worried about them being driven hard...in reality many of the owners of these (except the SRT8) seem pretty conservative around here.

I'd have the vehicle fully inspected anyway with a compression test and the like. Warranty I am not so concerned about since my powertrain one would be lost within my first few months in the car.

Hmm, fair enough. That makes it a little harder choice, but it's still a nice cruiser, and definitely the most flexible of the options listed. Gas mileage will be fairly bad, but a lot of that can be managed by judicious use of the 'fun' pedal. Difficult to do in a car with that much kick though :p

Even w/o warranty, I still think it'd cost less to maintain than either of the other options.

Personally, while I love the look of the S5, the S4 is probably a more well rounded vehicle in almost every aspect. It's about 6-8K cheaper, much better fuel economy, just as fast, has 4 doors, same suspension, active LSD, transmission and so on. You can also get a nice factory warrantied tune installed at the Audi dealership if you want to get more boost. I know you are looking for an used car, but I'm sure a year newer S4 good be had for the same price as the S5.
