I think martial arts in real life isn't magic like seen in TVs or movies. A well-trained MIXED MARTIAL ARTS trained grappler (ie a common UFC fighter) can just take a defended hit from Jet and come grab him.

Jet Li, who's been trained one-dimensionally and only championed against others that are likes of him and his style, would not know what to do and get his arm/leg broken through their holds.

I think he'd do ok against people who are one dimensional strikers. Also, if they fought on the street, a lot of MMA skills do not fully translate because they assume a mat beneath you and not being able to gouge or do small joint manipulation. I don't know if Jet Li's art teaches those things but if they do, it would be a world of hurt for an MMA fighter who is not trained in defending small joint manipulation.

Hahaha, you have no idea what you are talking about. The MMA rules limit what most of the fighters can do. If they fought Jet Li, in his prime, in a streetfight, they would absolutely destroy him.

Jet Li is a Wushu champion. It is basically a martial art for show, there is no one on one combat involved. Even Jet Li has admitted himself that he would lose to most top MMA fighters.

elaborate this

I read it a long time ago when I was going through my obsessed with kung fu movies phase. I don't feel like looking it up, so if you don't want to believe me that's fine.

That's enough. I believe you now.

There is no winner when Dr.Phil fights Oprah.

Aren't we all winners?

only if they fight to the death, with the winner going on to wrestle a grizzly bear that's been kicked in the nuts

fixed

and then when oprah crushes the grizzly bear? who does she fight after that?

Jet Li is also 44 years old, much older than most of the stars in MMA (save Randy Couture, but he's just a freak of nature :)). I don't think it's a fair comparison to make, really. He does his thing, the MMA fighters do theirs. It's kind of a silly argument, really. But yes, I would say he would lose in an MMA fight.

Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris & Seagal.

They're all true martial artists, and would probably give the top MMA champs a good run for the money ... try to find the videos, the speed that they have is INSANE. And if you wanna talk grappling, watch someone who does Aikido (Seagal) but check the videos online for the throws.

as good as they are (well maybe nto Seagal) i am not sure they would win in a MMA fight.

Seagal has some of the best qualifications out of the list, and probably the best grapple experience since everyone's so high on it. First westerner to form an Aikido dojo in Japan ...

I think the only one that could win a fight would be Bruce Lee. With the intensity and passion that he trained, I could see putting up some good fights.

Oooh, that woman is the devil. In fact, I'm certain that she'd be impossible to kill. We should unleash her in the middle east.

I love when people argue about martial arts (provides for much humor). The only way to settle it is to actually fight, so why argue at all?

Call up Encyclopedia Britannica, they've got to hear this from a credible source like you.

I agree with you. I like Jet Li but I have never been impressed by what I have seen with him. I have actually been more impressed with Jackie Chan. All the movies I have seen with Jet Li were obviously using heavy wire effects that it makes me wonder -- if he is so good why does all his movies use heavy wire effects? I also am not convinced that many kung fu movies also don't speed things up to make them look faster.

Plus, SIZE MATTERS. Jet Li is a small man and the current MMA fighters are big and super strong. I just don't see Jet Li lasting very long in the ring.

There are really tiny MMA fighters, but not in the UFC, which stops at Lightweight. And the lightweight championship is vacant at the moment so if he's fighting champions he'd be starting with GSP at the lightest. Ouch!

What people think of grapplers - snakes, broken glass on the ground, lava, nails on the ground, concrete, Tielk's anti-grapple, lava, broken glass, snakes, scorpions, nuclear waste water, random knives. SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Jesus fucking christ, if anything that gives advantage TO grapplers because they are not the ones who are going to be slammed to the ground, because they have extremely good balance, not to mention most of them know Judo. You can't throw around any good MMA grappler. Not to fucking mention they actually get used to being thrown to the ground, so it's no big deal, unlike for some people. Fucking idiots. Try to do small joint manipulation when a grappler mounted you and pounding you in the face.

What's the appeal of UFC? When did all this grappling become entertaining? Sometimes it looks like they're performing phallic mating or some other homosexual sex act.

when you tap out you're basically saying "hey, i'm your bitch, please don't break my arm"

no excuses about a "lucky blow", or "the ref stopped it too early"; you admitted defeat.

Seagal? That fat piece of shit couldn't fight his way out of a crowded booth at Denny's.

Steven Seagal (born April 10, 1951) is an American action movie actor, producer, writer, director, martial artist, singer-songwriter, and activist. A 7th-dan black belt in aikido,

must be a denny's in the middle of compton

Because it's not only grappling. UFC is pretty much the closest thing to a real fight. You think it's "homosexual" (hi, homophobe) because you don't understand what's goin on.

There's a battle goin on for getting an arm bar (means threaten to break the arm), RNC (which will make you pass out in 10 secs, unless you tap), guillatine choke (pretty much same thing), ankle, kimura's, leg locks, etc..
Sometimes they grapple for long time, if the grapplers are closely matched in skill. Sometimes people get submitted in first 5 seconds of a fight. Or knock out, or whatever..

It's like saying what makes football (or whatever sport) so entertaining? Well you'll never know unless you learn about it..
