Would a hollywood martial artist be able to beat me? Like a dead horse!

I think that about sums it up. Moviestar martial artists would whoop average person's ass pretty badly, but to win vs some1 who trained and fought the vs best fighters for 10-20 years, I'd be skeptical.

Well Jet Li does know real martial arts. he's practiced it all his life. its not like all he knows is movie martial arts.

Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris & Seagal.

They're all true martial artists, and would probably give the top MMA champs a good run for the money ... try to find the videos, the speed that they have is INSANE. And if you wanna talk grappling, watch someone who does Aikido (Seagal) but check the videos online for the throws.

as good as they are (well maybe nto Seagal) i am not sure they would win in a MMA fight.

Don't count Seagal out. He's a 7th Dan in AikidoWatch how easy he does it in real life

Bob Wall, USPK karate champion and co-star in Enter the Dragon, recalled a particularly serious encounter that transpired after a film extra kept taunting Lee. The extra yelled that Lee was "a movie star, not a martial artist," that he "wasn't much of a fighter." Lee answered his taunts by asking him to jump down from the wall he was sitting on. Bob Wall described Lee's opponent as "a gang-banger type of guy from Hong Kong," a "damned good martial artist," and observed that he was fast, strong, and bigger than Bruce. [17]

Wall recalled the confrontation in detail:

"This kid was good. He was strong and fast, and he was really trying to punch Bruce's brains in. But Bruce just methodically took him apart."[18]
"Bruce kept moving so well, this kid couldn't touch him...Then all of a sudden, Bruce got him and rammed his ass into the wall and swept him, he proceeded to drop his knee into his opponent's chest, locked his arm out straight, and nailed him in the face repeatedly."[19]
After his victory, Lee gave his opponent lessons on how to improve his fighting skills. His opponent, now impressed, would later say to Lee, "You really are a master of the martial arts."[18]

hahahahaha Bruce is the man.

Call up Encyclopedia Britannica, they've got to hear this from a credible source like you.

* In the Special Features section of the "Cradle 2 the Grave" DVD, Li claimed that he would be defeated in real life by professional MMA fighters such as Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, and Randy Couture, his co-stars in the film.

So everyone agrees that these UFC grappling MMA people would win in the cage when there are rules. What about a plain street fight, outside, no rules (but no weapons)?

I don't agree. I think Jet Li wins in both scenarios.

And to the OP:

I told him "you know people don't get knocked back 30 ft when they get kicked right?"

Lee could spring a 235 lb (107 kg) opponent 15 feet (4.6 metres) away with a 1 inch punch.

I would still give it to teh UFC fighters. They're used to being knocked around. Give Li a good shot to the chin and he's GGPO

In a real world fight, you either get gang banged by 4-5 others, someone might have a concealed weapon (gun >> pretty much everything besides Keanu Reeves), and all out no-holds (sand in the eyes, crotch hitting, etc.)

You'll be surprised how some people can fight when they are doing it for their lives. This MMA and UFC shit is all for entertainment.

it just means he could throw a 235lb person off balance and make them move backwards 15 feet to catch thier balance. with a 1 inch punch. AFAIK the subjects of the 1 inch punch didnt brace themselves, they just stood normally. its not really some kind of extreme feat of strength, it just demonstrated how well lee could put his whole body behind a very small movement.

Uh, groin kick anyone? Krav Maga FTW!

Granted, I've actually seen MMA fighters train (the MMA session is right before my Krav session). It's hardcore shit. I wouldn't last in an extended fight with any of them. Hence the reason I love Krav.

No extended fights, no rules. You just disable your opponent and run. And it teaches how to fight multiple opponents on the higher levels.

I've got my first weapons training session tonight (disarming techniques) . This is gonna be kickass :D

No extended fights. You just beat the living shit out of your opponent and run.

KM is weak in MMA due to the lack of grapple teachings in KM ... when I was doing KM, the instructor even admitted it. Purpose behind KM is to avoid the fighting though, and just subdue your attacker. KM is still a sick, sick MA though ...

What, against MMA rules that are extra biased against strikers and pro-grappling? Of course Jet Li would lose.

Put them in a street fight with no rules and see what happens.

I googled jet li mma
From about the middle of the page:

"On Sport Fighting

* While Li had been highly successful in non-combat Wu Shu tournaments, he has never expressed a personal interest in competing in any sport fighting or competitive martial arts such as kickboxing or MMA.
* In the Special Features section of the "Cradle 2 the Grave" DVD, Li claimed that he would be defeated in real life by professional MMA fighters such as Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, and Randy Couture, his co-stars in the film."

somebody here has that DVD, report back to us stat!
:p

That's much easier to buy. Still, the onus is on the asserter. It's ridiculous to go around spreading information with no/barely any justification. It's intellectually dishonest.

We're talking about Jet Li and you're whining about "intellectual dishonesty" ... give me a break

Again, we're talking about potentially misattributing quotes. It's wrong to say somebody did something they didn't do. I don't know Jet Li, but spreading rumors about anybody is wrong. Seems pretty basic to me.

imo, the whole grappling fighting thing i keep seeing on UFC is sissy fighting. not saying it doesnt do damage or not effective, it just not satisifying to watch, kinda more gaylike than anything, having mens crotches that close together is just plain sissy fighthing i dont care what anyone says.

grappling is sissy? heh.

tell you what. go tell a wrestler that. hell a high school wrestler even one of the low weight ones. tell him you think he is a sissy because he wrestles LOL

you failed to read which caused an errounous response. i didnt say its not effective or could do damage, i said it LOOKED sissy. sorry but men holding each other in such fashion is not something i care to watch.
