People will do drugs if they are illegal or not, period. Prohibition was the clearest illustration that effective substance control of a product that a rather large section of the public clearly has an appetite for is impossible, but people simply refuse to learn.

I refuse to belive that the farce known as the "War on Drugs" has any tangabile effects other than consuming huge amounts of taxpayer money and our filling prisons with people on drug realted charges.

It simply dosen't work.

It also ensures high drug prices, and if the government is right the terrorists get all that money. :Q

United States Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp, used products made from hemp, and praised the hemp plant in some of their writings. Under the laws written by today's politicians, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would be considered a threat to society--they would be arrested and thrown in prison for the felony crime of growing plants. -cannabis.com

Did the Founding Fathers of the United States of America smoke cannabis? Some researchers think so. Dr. Burke, president of the American Historical Reference Society and a consultant for the Smithsonian Institute, counted seven early presidents as cannabis smokers: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor and Franklin Pierce

Do you not understand the concept of non bias?

yeah alot of people are catching on too, maxim, playboy, esquire have all had articles about the miserable failure that is the war on families (drugs). scientific american ran an article this month or last that said it's easier to get approved for cocaine studies than for marijuana. and nearly all of the scientists think it should be more available to study. Prohibition and wars on drugs are the ghey, for every "big bust" they celebrate for theres 10 more to take its place. USA drug legislation = advanced retardation * 1000000

I want a link that says that George Washington grew marajuana for the express purpose of what our society defines today as drug use/abuse, i.e. smoking/cooking.

And here is another subject where people look at everything emotionally instead of rationally.

This is one of the few subjects I look at emotionally instead of rationally. I've seen friends DIE because of drugs. Good people, who had everything in the world going for them, dragged down by drugs.

Drug dealers who's customer's die should be charged with murder, and sentenced to death. Deterence works.
Yeah, me and about 6-8 of my friends started playing around with speed about a year out of high school. Needless to say, we were hopelessly addicted 6 months later. About half of us kicked it eventually and the other half are still users today (4 years later). These were middle class kids from the suburbs that could have gone to college and been just like you and me, and now they're fvcking bums doing whatever they can to get their fix.

It's amazing how quick the addiction sneaks up on you. Once a month becomes once a week becomes once a day. Anyone that wants to leagalize hard drugs needs to get acquainted with some people who have had their lives destroyed by them.

Exact same thing happened to my friends. If I could find the drug dealer who was selling them the drugs, I'd kill him today; no trial, no jury, just a bullet in the head. Drug dealers are some of the worst people on earth, they sell souls for money.
Fvcking christ. Who died and made you judge, jury and executioner?
Your friends played around with fire and got burnt, it's not the drug dealers fault.

I dare say that they are just proving darwin right.

If there were no drugs available, this wouldn't have been possible.

Hopefully genetic engineering will soon take us to what we need: a bacteria that attacks and destroys certain types of plants, like marijuana, cocoa and opiate producing plants. Biological warfare against drug cartels...

I disagree with all forms of drug use, and I'm very happy that I'm lucky enough to live in a country where all of it's illegal. Like Nik said, hardcore drugs destroy lives. Period.

So do you also support banning fast cars, guns and advil because all of these things can be abused and lead to death or serious heath problems.

If your friends were stupid enough to get seriously addicted to a drug then chances are they would be stupid enough to hurt themselves without drugs.

Drugs don't destroy lives. Guns don't kill people.

People do.

I have that exact same argument used against me when I defend gun owners.
It is certainly not any more valid in this context.

Heh, I like the idea, hope it comes to fruition some day; it'll make drug dealers find real jobs.

Umm, yeah, cuz fast cars, guns and advil have been proven to be physically addicting and deteriorate your health from infrequent use....oh, there goes my sarcasm again....

EDIT: Sorry, I'm still a forum n00b and don't have the quote thing down yet :S

OMG, We found a topic that n0cmonkey and I disagree on.

Fvck drugs, Fvck drug users, and Fvck drug dealers. Drugs DO ruin peoples lives.. Sure the people made the choice, but the hold these drugs had on the people was too much for them.. Trust me, I know how hard it is to give up nicotine, let alone crack.

Solution is easy...

1. Give 1/2 of the mopes all the drugs.
2. Give the other half all the guns.
3. Tell the normal people when this is going to occur so they can stay home that night.

Problem kind of solves itself... :p

If you wiped out the biological sources of some drugs more synthetics will just rise in their place. You cannot beat the market, merely rearrange it a little.

Attempting to do so is futile.

Anything can be addicting. Hell, I bet that if you took the computers away from some of the people here they would feel withdrawals. Your mind has a way of producing physical symptoms for mental addictions.
