They (two brothers) bought a pure-bred pit bull looking for a "mean guard dog". They have been talking several times about how their dog is going to be so tough, wont let strangers on their lawn, etc. It's still a puppy, about 6 months old. Once when it was maybe 12 weeks old, it got off of their lawn and came over to me while I was mowing the lawn. It came up, sniffed my hand, etc. I petted it, and held onto it until my neighbors showed up to collect her (about 3 minutes). Dogs tend to like me. This dog has apparently bonded to me like I am a family member. She has run away from them many times just to "say hello" to me. Today while I was mowing the lawn, she ran away from her owners not once, not twice, but three times, just to come over and say hi. Even on the third time it came over, this dog was demonstratively happier to see than any other dog I can think of. These neighbors live across the street and over a house from where I live, so it isnt like their dog is walking 15' to greet me. They are SO not happy about this, and about the fact they when they went hysterical telling their dog (I dont even know it's name, I just call it "pup" when it comes over) to sit and it wouldnt when it was running over to me, I got her to sit just by softly saying "sit" and pointing at the ground*. They couldnt get their dog to move under it's own power till I said "go" and pointed towards them. Basically, their dog is my dog. Really, they should have gotten an Akita if they wanted a guard dog that wouldnt tolerate strangers.
*technically, that would have been a fourth visit today, but I got the dog to sit in the street on command (though I didnt tell it to sit until I looked up and down the street for cars), and so I dont count it.
Cliff's Notes:
-My neighbors bought a pit bull looking for a guard dog that wouldnt like anyone but them.
-I could walk over to their yard, beat them down and screw their mom against her will, and their dog wouldnt do anything to me other than try to get my attention so that I would pet it.
-They are pissed.
