nativesunshine? (only girl who i can think of who used to post here often, but quit after some bickering w/ other forum members or something...)

EDIT: so there's that one device that you can't identify as another computer or any other network device in the house?

The device with IP 192.168.11.4 is something that was manufactured by Samsung Electronics. I don't know what that really tells you, though.

i believe that is the only questionable one. i am assuming that 192.168.11.1 and 192.168.11.100 are the router itself and the access point since they are buffalo, is that a safe assumption?

what?? i havent "socialized" online in quite some time... i am also unfamiliar with these silly acronyms. go ahead, make fun of me... im not the nerd i once was :(

 it ok. we were all n00bs at some point. Urban Dictionary should help you with many of the internet fads/acronyms and so on.

ok. first, this should probably be in networking. nevertheless, here's what you do if you want to find a wireless camera that connects to a router.

1) find our your Router's ip address. to do this, right click "My Network Places" and select properties. Then, select your active connection and double click it. now choose the support tab, and look under default gateway. now open up IE/FF or whatever you use and enter the ip address that you saw in default gateway. This is ofcourse all assuming you have a router. the ip address should be something like: 10.something.something.something or 172.16.something.something or last, 192.168.something.something

2) now it will ask you for username and password. this you will have to find out from the online manual of whatever router you have. (example, my D-Link DI-604 has the defualt username admin with a blank password.)

3) look for a DHCP tab. there, you should see all devices that are connected through DHCP or through a static ip. additionaly, you can look for a MAC filter that will show you all devices connected to the router.

4) count the number of devices that you see in the scroll down menu. if it is more then the computers you have connected, then either someone is leeching of your wi-fi, or your fears are confirmed.

5)i suggest you look for a MAC filter and only allow that MAC address of your computers. while this won't stop anyone that is really trying to gain access, it is quite hard to spoof the MAC address of a wireless camera as far as i know.

just keep in mind, that he might be using a regular camera. why not just look? an as for your computer, read up on what you need in order to setup your computer, backup your things, format and reinstall and be the admin in your computer.

Heh why not just move out of your mothers house?

If he's THAT creepy, just keep your distance from him. Otherwise, keep some mace or a taser close by. ;]

Also how good of a picture can a small cam like that screw cam give you? Let a lone see in the dark. I've had webcams that are garbage at night.

The NIC in that device was manufactured by Samsung; the device itself, however, could be something entirely different.

You could try pointing a web browser at it for both http://<ip> and https://<ip> and see what happens. Also try telnet, ssh, ftp, remote desktop, etc, to see if you get any clues. If you're more sophisticated, you could run a port scan to see what ports it's listening on.

Most likely, it's a cable box or Tivo or some other such appliance.

I would buy a lock for your room, so he can't access it. Then search your room for any possible cameras. Maybe, buy a room divider to change behind.

Also, don't forget that most laptops have 2 MAC addresses. One for the wireless and another for the wired connection.

Is your router secure? That device could be someone leaching your internet.

how old are you?

what makes you think he is really spying on you? you need more proof then just a feeling.

Search the room. anything new in there? same with the bath room.

also do what capt cavemen said. LOCK the door and ge ta room divider.

Just do a strip tease when you undress. If he's as old as you say, and he's watching, you might give him a heart attack.

Problem solved.

This is all very sad. Especially, the kind of responses posted here ... and is a tragic reflection of our society and the losers who live in it.

I will err on the side of trust and consider the OP to be genuine and not a troll. If you suspect this guy (mom's BF) to be capable of playing foul ... you have to play smart.

My advice (caution - I tend to think outside typical norms) ...

- go to msnbc.com and get printouts of "To Catch A Predator" ... and place them in strategic areas around the house. (better yet, turn on the show while he is in the same room)
- make your family dinner conversations interesting by making up stories of someone's dad getting caught in a sting operation and the tragic consequence.
- don't dress slutty in front of him (resist the temptation to reason that its your house and you can do what you want ... life is not always fair .. pick your battles carefully).
- be Very Alert.

Dress in the dark? If you keep doing it this way he might lose interest and give up. It surely is less efficient than porn.
