I hope you're planning to make it up for he/she by buying them a sweet car since you don't have to pay for University.

Depending on which University, when I graduated in 2004, a year cost me 22k.

Where the hell did you go? A year of tuition at Iowa costs me about 6k. Housing and living expenses, books, and whatnot bring it to about 12k.

I go to Loras college in Dubuque, and it cost me about $15k total a year. =(

Very nice, congrats.

Unfortunately, there are some schools which cost over 30K a year and it is pretty common.

That should last him 2 years at a state school.

Some people think private universities are worth double the costs, I honestly don't believe they offer double the education.

Lot of private schools give more scholarships/aid out to everyone bringing the cost down to a state school atleast thats how the two of them I looked into did things...

Very true.

My school (private) cost about $33k total a year, but gives out aid to compete with the state schools and brings my cost down to over half its original cost. Even though its a few more thousand than some of my in-state universities, I truly believe im getting a better education with these small class sizes.

So long as they stay in-state, you may be right. College is expensive

It's hard to compare state vs private education. I attend a private institution and I believe it's worth the price for the education. The name and the connections from the alums is worth the price.

Man, Im glad we have the UC system in California. $4K a year for pretty damn good education.

The hell? It was close to $3k a quarter when I graduated at UCI.. though it was like half that my first quarter there.

People quickly forget the difference between private and public schools. I got away with a 120k undergrad diploma.

which, San Luis Obispo or Pomona?

Doubt that'd be enough to cover life in SLO for 4 years. At least not much of a life.

If Pomona, then I have no idea, first you'll want enough to buy a top quality gas mask to filter the smog, then an annual pass to Raging Waters, ...

Man, I'm glad I graduated in the nineties 🙂

UCLA too

There was a big jump in early 2000s, UCSF med went from 6K/year to 20K/yr while I was there.

That's pretty awesome regardless of which college he decides to go to. I wished I was more mature when I was younger, I gave up a 50% scholarship (essentially $30k) to go to a "cooler" school. A lot of people I work with now are from the college I passed on, and are getting paid almost as much as I am..

if thats for 4 years, it barely covers living expenses. i got 60k over 4 years from one school, and turned it down because a state school was still cheaper.

24k now = quite a bit more in a good savings account, especially if he is in Junior High, maybe 5-7 years of interest...
