Ah man... why didn't I think of that?

I guess I'll go buy a new car today after work.

Can anyone suggest me a new car with a nice built-in navigation system?

Ahh gee why didn't I think of that? You're right, now one has ever had anything that was bolted into their dash stolen before.

Public Service Announcement: Don't put your home into your GPS.

When your GPS is stolen from your car, the theif knows (a) that you aren't careful about locking things, (b) where you live, and (c) that you aren't home.

If you really want directions from your GPS back home, mark a building a block away as your home. Then, if you still can't get home, you are a moron.

I'm sure it happens =)

I know it hurts your little brains giant ego's to reply without being condescending, but I've now owned two vehicles in a row with built in nav. Coupled with tinted windows it makes it difficult to determine if there is something worth stealing from within. I work in one of the most crime-infested areas of my city and my previous car and now my truck have never been vandalized - but I can almost guarantee you that if I had a suction cup stuck to my window, or even the residue from one, it would have been.

I have a picture somewhere I'll try and find and link tonight. It has a row of six cars, with mine being second to the rear, and five had their windows knocked out and stereo's jacked. They skipped my truck entirely and I was the only one without glass on the concrete.

Regardless of how much of an asshole you both feel like being this morning, I am speaking from EXPERIENCE.

Hahahahahahahaha..... I've not yet heard one person that lives in Atlanta say that the streets are structured. We all own GPS system down here because they road layout is horrible. Peachtree is so common and all over the place.

I take mine out of the car with me, and it's also LOCKED. I have a Garmin 200W, it requires a 4 digit pin to unlock. This can only be changed by the factory to my knowledge. So, register it and lock it down. When the thief sends it in to be unlocked, Garmin should be emailing the address you registered. You may just get it back 🙂

Damn, the GPS companies must love Atlanta if every single person has a GPS. Good job on helping the economy.

Wow, you must be really insecure. Is your argument so weak that you resort to insults to bolster your position? It must be. You?re not a Democrat are you?

Any person with a brain (which you seem to lack) knows that thieves have been ripping out electronics from cars since, well, since there have been electronics in cars. The fact that you haven't experienced this phenomenon first hand doesn't discount the fact that it does happen with regularity. Your simplistic countermeasures also do not magically convert your vehicle into an impenetrable fortress ? you simply haven?t been hit yet.

I'm sure you'll think up some equally worthless, anecdotal evidence as before, call me a name and declare victory - the typical thought pattern of a Neanderthal such as yourself. Don?t expect me to read it though.

Believe me...you learn your way around by using a GPS as well...but with a failsafe...I'd never go back after getting a GPS...especially while I was in Europe in countries where I don't speak the language well or at all.

WE'RE the assholes?

You're the one who suggested that we buy a new car to get a better GPS...

Your logic needs reevaluation.

Live in Boston and Providence for some years. Then Atlanta looks like a checkerboard.

You're obviously the product of public education, so I'm going to attempt to make this as simple as possible under the assumption that your reading comprehension is on par with a third-grader.

I stated, quite simply, that *I* as an individual only purchase cars with in-dash nav and as a result do not need to utilize third party electronic devices that turn my vehicle into a walking magnet for theft. Not once did I EVER state that you should do the same - and you can sit here until you turn blue in the face (preferably resulting in your death via asphyxiation so you won't make yet another ignorant reply) and choose to INFER my statements as being directed at you, but unfortunately based on simple rules of the English language I was, in fact, merely stating my own personal decisions.

Go find Jesus or something, you seem like a pretty angry person.

ha, i use one of my neighbors addresses since they are annoying. ok, thats a little mean but i have an in-dash gps so if they're already in my car ill assume that they can just pull my address/name from my insurance/registration papers in the glovebox.

That's stupid though.
If you want to get a map update, they'll charge you an arm and a leg for it.

If you lease cars or change cars every 3-4 years, your suggestion is great.
If you plan to keep the car for 10 years like most normal people do, expect to pay an arm and a leg to update.

Not to mention you're severely limiting yourself. I can take my portable GPS anywhere.
If I get lost in a parking lot or garage, it can find where I parked.
I can take mine on a hiking trip, bike route, etc...
