May be all he wants is for you to agree with him, if it doesn't bother you, next time he say something, just agree, like "My Bose sounds better than your stereo", just look at him with a straight face and say "You're right". He wouldn't know what to do after that, trust me.

I've shown him my stereo is better (had a 3rd party friend judge) He tries to race me at EVERY redlight (he can afford tickets.. well.. his dad can.) and loses every single time. When I won't race him on a busy street he talks about how he won. I'm like wtf. I've beat you before. It's not like your car has changed or anything. My g/f is uber hot. He can't get a g/f. I think I am the alpha male, and he's trying to impress me or something. stupid.

Why don't you just sit down and talk with him? Good friends are happy for each other when they get a new toy, no matter whose is "better".

My advice...next time on the phone when he starts saying "Maybe you should..." just hang up on him. Then keep blaming it on his crappy phone.

OR

Next time he says "Maybe you should..." interrupt and say "Maybe you should shut your mouth." You can handle the rest.

I think it's funny when someone corrects someone else's grammar and then makes a mistake of their own.

That's seem like a conversation ender to me. Whenever he's acts like a stuckup ass, rub that in his face.

Yeah, I was going to say, if he wastes it buying a lot of crap he doesn't need, then he must not put a high value on money at all.

Comfort yourself with the knowlegde that you'll be able retire because you won't be up to your ears in debt all your life, while someone who spends everything he gets his hands on, mostly in the name of appearance, as with his Bose and Infinity, will be at a severe disadvantage later on.

Tell him your wang tastes better than his. Um, as for the "prove it" part, well, heh. Then bust out the lotion and tell him that your prostate is softer than his.

buy something really expensive, tell him about it and when he gets a more expensive one, return it. Keep doing that until he gets the hint 8)

that does suck, but he is your friend and i don't think he's doing it to intentionally belittle you. i think he's doing it to make himself feel better. he doesn't have lots of friends and he doesn't go out much, right? next time when he does it, ask, "so are you gonna help me buy all of those nice things or what?" i'm sure he'll get tired of you asking and eventually stop telling to buy those nice things heh

I just posted last night in the '1 ply tissue' thread about a supervisor that would make his people feel 'cheap'.

I had an actual friend that would pull this same stuff.

I had a $130,000 house at 23, I bought about 10 years ago...he said less than a half million couldn't even be considered a 'real party pad'

I had a 35x18 foot pool and he thought less than olympic sized with a grotto was a waste.

He also buys all designer items, wears them once or twice and returns them. He has to drive farther and farther as most local stores will not accept his returns anymore.

His philosophy was it would be pointless to move out of his parents house until he could buy a $15k a month flat in NYC with about a half million in furnishings. He rationalized it's way easier to afford things in NYC since you dont need a '$5,000' car payment a month

He lived at home before finally moving out at 28. He doesn't have any of the stuff he said he would.

I personally like simple things, I could buy a new car, but I don't care for the payments of one....I don't see the value in it. Same way of spending several hundred thousand on a house, I maybe buying a foreclosure nearby soon and fix it the way I want it. It's got room for a detached garage, a carport already, large circular driveway, maybe 1/4 acre of land total....it was a detached workshop/storage(concrete block)....might be able to snag it at land value. It's about 2k total living and 1100 in the main part of what would be considered under air I think....I am going to go by it later on this month and check it out more.

Some people are just like that... they have to one up everyone else. Just don't let it bother you... if he wants to waste his money that he places such high value on, let him... next time you want something, like a nice TV, buy an ok one, then he'll buy a great one and then you get to watch TV on a 52 inch 1080i widescreen plasma TV :D

*EDIT* George Forman grills are handy to have around, buy the mid size one, then he'll pop for the full size one with the bun warmer on top, then you can return your's and use the bigger one :D

BTW... that's not as effective unless it's your room mate, but either way, you can drop buy his house for Monday Night Football on his big ass TV and cook some beer brats on his big ass Forman gril =)
