My dvd burner shattered an XP Pro disc into a 1000 pieces

My pc was acting up so I was gonna try to repair it from the XP disc. So I went to my school's library and checked out XP Pro. I get home and put it in and it froze up after booting from the disc and I heard a loud pop. I had to manually try to open the tray only to see tons of broken pieces! Luckily I only had to pay 10 bucks to replace the disc.

you lose lol

not even your XP disc haha

disc must of had a weak spot or fracture in it somewhere that caused it to fail under load. if it was a library disc, its probably subject to more wear and tear and generally not looked after very well by people who loan it out

that was microsoft's anti-piracy emergency self-destruct function. you forgot about it because you were too busy breaking the law. 😉

pry?! there is a small hole on the front of the drive. stick a paperclip in and the lock mechanism will release and you should be able to open it fairly easily.

edit: oh and pics of course 😛

most likely there are some hairline cracks on the disc to begin of.
my plextor ripped a win2k disc into shreds long time ago, microsoft replaced the disc for me.

All the bits and pieces of xp in there might make it a little harder on the rails and gears.

yeah i knew that, i just wanted to give the OP a hard time 😛

Reminds me of Sony's BS story about how they couldn't make a top-loading PS2 because the disc would go flying out and cut someone's head off due to the RPM's.

My friends CDROM did that to a Lords of the Realm 2 disc quite a few years ago. It was our only disc and we shared it...it was a sad day. 🙁
