My dvd burner shattered an XP Pro disc into a 1000 pieces

this has happed to me. it was a W2K disk and when it exploded it sounded like a powersupply popped. i sniffed every server to see which one blew, not finding a blown powersupply i went back to my install and saw a blank screen, i opened the cdrom and my disk fell out in a zillion pieces, and the drive was toast as well.

It's still good, it's just a bit fragmented...
Just run a disc defragger and you'll be good to go. 😛

In the Mythbusters ep, they ended up using something that could spin the disc much faster than a CD/DVD drive. I believe it was an industrial strength circular saw or something. They placed a simulated body (rubber? or some kind of gelatinous stuff) nearby so that they could see if the CD did shatter, whether or not the shards could kill someone. I remember quite a few sizeable pieces embedded in the "simul-body" when they were done.

I replaced a drive for someone that had that happen, but I didn't believe it, 'till I finaly had it happen to me about 2 years ago. Makes a fricking mess in the case, and the CDROM is toast.
