My pc was acting up so I was gonna try to repair it from the XP disc. So I went to my school's library and checked out XP Pro. I get home and put it in and it froze up after booting from the disc and I heard a loud pop. I had to manually try to open the tray only to see tons of broken pieces! Luckily I only had to pay 10 bucks to replace the disc.

you lose lol

not even your XP disc haha

disc must of had a weak spot or fracture in it somewhere that caused it to fail under load. if it was a library disc, its probably subject to more wear and tear and generally not looked after very well by people who loan it out

that was microsoft's anti-piracy emergency self-destruct function. you forgot about it because you were too busy breaking the law. ;)

pry?! there is a small hole on the front of the drive. stick a paperclip in and the lock mechanism will release and you should be able to open it fairly easily.

edit: oh and pics of course :p

most likely there are some hairline cracks on the disc to begin of.
my plextor ripped a win2k disc into shreds long time ago, microsoft replaced the disc for me.

All the bits and pieces of xp in there might make it a little harder on the rails and gears.

you should see the mythbusters of them blowing up CDs from high rpms. man, they really do some damage.

Reminds me of Sony's BS story about how they couldn't make a top-loading PS2 because the disc would go flying out and cut someone's head off due to the RPM's.

My friends CDROM did that to a Lords of the Realm 2 disc quite a few years ago. It was our only disc and we shared it...it was a sad day. :(
