My dad received a liver transplant this past Thanksgiving Day from Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Almost exactly 3 months after he is now back in the hospital because something went wrong and its not functioning. This is the worst nightmare for anyone especially my Dad.

His liver is slowing slipping away right now and he is going on a ventilator until they can locate a new liver and a kidney for him. Now he has to do a double transplant. I am so pissed I have to deal with school and work right now. I can't leave until 9pm to go see him at the hospital. I feel so hopeless right now I hate it. All I can do is pray for him. I can look into his eyes and see he is really scared.

I wrote this cuz right now I don't know what else to do.....I have an hour left then I can go see him and I pray to God its not for the last time. Its funny, its one of those things where you always read about something bad like this happening but you never think it could ever happen to your family. Growing up nothing could stop my dad or harm him. Now I have a million different thoughts running through my head and I don't know how to handle all this.

Please God be with him. I love my Dad.

I just got back from Northwestern. My Dad passed away after he asked to be taken off all the machines and medicines he was given. He fought hard and long and I don't blame him at all for his choice. It was his, no one but he could know the pain he was feeling for the past 16 months. God bless him, he was the greatest father I could ever ask for.

God please take care of my father. I love you Dad.

I hope everything works out well for your dad. My aunt had a liver transplant approximately one year ago. (knock on wood) She's been okay so far, though she has the occasional complication. I still tear up every now and then when I think about how far science has come to even give people like my aunt and your dad the chance to lead an extended life. I don't know how old your dad is, but it's not his time to go. I with you and your dad and your family the best.

It's not an easy thing to watch a parent in pain, facing a situation like this. I really hope he pulls through.

Thanks for all the well wishes you guys. It really helps when I am stuck and can't do anything.

He has a rare genetic problem and he has NASH which accounts for ~5% of liver transplants. My dad eats pretty good and never drank in his life. And for the past 3 months he has never gotten better, he still is weak, tired, and complains of fluid buildup in his chest/stomach area.

I feel so bad for him, he has been through hell and back once, now he has to do it all over again. Northwestern is one of the best transplant hospitals in the midwest. My dad is 54 by the way.

50 more minutes!

Sorry bout your dad, hope he pulls through. Why couldn't you leave earlier? Stuck at work? No one there understands you need to see him at the hospital before he goes on a ventilator?

Hope everything works out ok.

I went through a similar situation with my dad about 2 years ago and it was the worst month of my life. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
