My Dad had a heart attack and subsequent triple bypass at the age of 52. I know what it's like to go through something like this.

Thoughts & prayers to your Dad and wishing him a speedy recovery.

My dad received a liver transplant this past Thanksgiving Day from Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Almost exactly 3 months after he is now back in the hospital because something went wrong and its not functioning. This is the worst nightmare for anyone especially my Dad.

His liver is slowing slipping away right now and he is going on a ventilator until they can locate a new liver and a kidney for him. Now he has to do a double transplant. I am so pissed I have to deal with school and work right now. I can't leave until 9pm to go see him at the hospital. I feel so hopeless right now I hate it. All I can do is pray for him. I can look into his eyes and see he is really scared.

I wrote this cuz right now I don't know what else to do.....I have an hour left then I can go see him and I pray to God its not for the last time. Its funny, its one of those things where you always read about something bad like this happening but you never think it could ever happen to your family. Growing up nothing could stop my dad or harm him. Now I have a million different thoughts running through my head and I don't know how to handle all this.

Please God be with him. I love my Dad.
i feel for you man. i have been in your shoes. i thought my Dad was invinsible too.
spend as much time as you can with him. tell him you love him over and over.

i pray he will be OK.

I hope your dad gets better.

I lost my dad a couple years ago. We donated his liver and kidneys. Hopefully, there will be someone out there who will do the same for him.

I hope everything works out. There is no way I could function if my father was in the hospital.

Good news. He did not need the ventilator. He is still doing ok on his own. We just need to find a liver soon.

Sorry man

My uncle has liver cancer and got about 50% of it taken out. He's still going thru w/the treatment.

My g/f's mom passed away about 8 months ago when her hepatitis c (blood transplant) caused her liver to fail. :(

I hope your pops pulls thru.

I don't know if this will comfort you at all, but I think that it is not unusual for transplanted organs to fail or never work in the first place. My dad's kidneys failed over a long period of time for still undetermined reasons (current theory is blood pressure medication). He got a transplant, but the kidney never began functioning. During this time the doctors informed him that kidney transplants are never a certainty. Sometimes they work at first then fail, sometimes they take a while to "start up", etc.

If your father does get a new transplant, I would advise you to make sure he is very cautious about his activity. My dad after the non-working transplanted kidney decided to take a trip to california. The doctor allegedly said it was ok. Being that he was on immuno-suppressants, I always thought it was a bit risky. It turns out I was right. He had to be hospitalized with a very serious infection along with pneumonia. He fortunately recovered, though it was very scary.

A couple of years later he got another kidney, and this one is working pretty well. Needless to say he didn't take any trips for a long time. It's hard for me to imagine what it would be like with liver problems. It's scary and troubling enough with kidney problems, which can be controlled via a couple of dialysis options.

I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but my sister called me this morning and told me that he is slowing getting better. Very slow, but his condition is improving. I know it has a lot to do with your prayers for my dad and I greatly appreciate it. Also, its kind of ironic to see him slowing get better when torpid said that it might take a little while for them to "start up". I am not saying he is all better now but he is definitely improving. He is off the dialysis machine too.

I am very glad to hear that. Be thankfull he is not like my dad was. The depression of all his health problems drove him to drink making it so they were not willing to get him a new liver. His family got to watch him slowly slip away.
