My dad's passing just passed 1 year ago. It'll take a while, but just hang in there.

Losing my dad was one of the toughest things I have dealt with in my life. Hard as it is to believe you will eventually accept that he is gone while keeping his memory very close to your heart. Even though it has been 14 years a day does not go by where I do not think about my father and what his advice to me might have been about happenings in my life.

I'm very sorry for your loss and you have my sincere condolences.

Remember it's OK to feel bad. It's a tough thing to go through. All of us have to grieve when we lose someone and it takes some time. But as time goes on it will be better, and like shocksyde said, just hang in there. Take care.

I'm really sorry to hear about this. When I lost my mom it hurt, and its been almost 3 years and it still hurts. That emptyness will never go away totally, that's what I'm told. But the best way to get a handle on this is to talk about it and grieve with others that were close to your dad. You've got to grieve and not hold back because it needs to come out - its only natural. It will get better. May I suggest that you eventually put together a remembrance for your dad, perhaps a scrap book or something you can take out from time to time.

Hang on, we all have to deal with this - you're not alone.

I don't even want to imagine the day when my dad dies. He's the person I'm closest to in both my family and just in general. I tell him stuff I don't even tell best friends.

My condolences OP. :(

My dad died when I was a young kid and it was very difficult. I didn't even realize he could die so soon but he did. It really sucked.

Wow then you and I both know how it feels to lose a loved one when you are so young. You never get to do the things others get to do with their fathers.

Same here. I know I'll be absolutely devastated when I lose either of my parents.

Lost my Dad on March 8, 2005 and I also posted about it on this forum. Lots of big hearts on this message board! Hang in there and try to get a recommendation on an excellent grieving therapist. That can really help.

Oddly enough, I wasn't really affected when my dad died (I'm too callous), but it did bother me for probably half a year afterward whenever I saw an ambulance. You know one thing I thought about though? If you cared about the person that passed that much, I'm quite sure they cared about you at least that much in return. I'm sure one thing they'd really want is for your life to be joyous and going through it just like if they were alive. I know that they'd want to see you smile though :). Like I know my dad wanted me to succeed in life and continuing to do that is something that I can do to continue his memory.

Well, if it makes you feel better a lot of us with dads dont even do those things that a child who loses his father young imagines they might have done with their fathers.

Our sympathies...

Stay strong and you'll make it through. However, there is no shame in taking a "happy" pill prescribed by your doctor to help keep the lows from being so low.
