My concern for the wii is that its not giong to be that much better gameplay. I played it at a wii event and i was not impressed. sure sports was a bit fun but unles they make A LOT of good games with A LOT of original ideas I dont see the wii being worth it. For instance..skating with the control is obsolute nonsense. Also the console is not so good for competition. Its for everyone including grama and thats fine...but I dont know about you..i dont want to play tony hawk with my grandparents cause i cant yell {****** YOU{ lol.

and come on. I know they want to make a profit on every console but they could have made the graphics a little better. I went in expecting not much..but i was going in hoping for SOME graphical improvement. yes zelda looks ok..but damn i saw some previews for some racing games and tey looked like they were ps2 games....not cool

Xbox360 for the win...i am sad to say.

I own one. I can't get my wife to stop playing it. This is not normal.

Apparently I believe Gears of War running at 720p or 1080i looks much better and is a much better game than Resistance.

and its pointless, I was saying to the OP that graphics isn't everything. that was my point. I wasn't trying to bring the fanboy console war discussion over here. I have a wii and a 360, I do not believe PS3 will suck in the long term, but just like how DS was inferior to the PSP hardware-wise, I like the games much better.

Nintendo is trying to revive the classics and reinvent the industry and the perception of video games. They are aiming the Wii and DS to both gamers and non-gamers. While Sony and MS are trying to stay within the current playing field

Hey well I can't argue with you about Gears of War, I have a 360 and that game, and its utterly amazing, as is Madden 07'.

I just don't see Wii as being all that successful once Sony finally starts getting units into heavy production. I'm surprised with you guys though, I see the PS3 really becoming a centerpiece of a home entertainment system in the future, with gaming, movie and tv watching, and computing abilities all in one tiny console.

I think Microsoft has slightly different plans.

Here's how the situation is going to work out:
Microsoft has much much much more cash to bleed than sony and they are going to take the market. The all-in-one media center is where the market is going and it's quite clear that Microsoft wants to be the key player. And they will be. What Microsoft wants, Microsoft gets, except in very special circumstances(google). Unfortunetely for the market two smart guys can't get together and put together a hundred million dollar video game console to best the xbox. I predict one more console from Sony, two max.

The wii has a MUCH larger market:

Old school gamers who grew up on nintendo (like myself), casual gamers who don't care about graphics, and just want something quick and fun to play, wannabe hipster emo kids who think NES is cool cause it's old, and now, your girlfriend and parents.

The xbox and PS3 appeal more to the newer wave of hardcore gamers, and the late teens/20 somethings that grew up on playstation. Your GF does not want to play saints row or halo. Graphics are good and all, but with a crap library like the 360, it won't matter, to me, at least.

meh its all speculation right now, but I agree with tweakmm about Microsoft having more money to bleed.

But in the last generation of consoles I picked them all up used for very cheap and the Gamecube had by far the worst games, and the most rabid, annoying gamers. Again thats my point of view.

It seems as if this is carrying on and Nintendo is not interested in keeping up. I mean the WII doesn't even have a DVD player and the new formats succeeding the DVD are coming out very quickly.

I think you might have just been playing the wrong games. In that generation I started off hard-core with the xbox and Halo, PGR, DOA3 etc. I ended up spending much more time on my Gamecube with Metroid Prime, MP2:Echoes, Resident Evil 4, Windwalker, etc.

Well, considering that it actually was a GC game for most of the dev cycle I'm not all that suprised that it looks like an upgraded GC game.
As for the target audience, think about this, even though guys like the offerings of the 360 and the ps3 i've pretty universally heard "well normally i don't like video games, but i love thw wii" from every girl i know of that's encountered it. Not to mention that from everything i've heard there are some pretty good games out for the wii right now.
Just because nintendo has a different idea about a game console from you doesn't make it pathetic

The Wii is defining a new market place. It's actually quite a brilliant strategy on Nintendo's part.

Nobody says "What of the 3 consoles do I want to get" it's "In addition to the Wii, do I want an Xbox or PS3"
Comparing the three systems as equals is not fair.

Thats an interesting way to put it, but I mean the core 360 is 299.99, only 50 bucks more than the Wii....

The Wii is already hugely successful among gamers and non-gamers. My aunt is addicted to bowling on Wii Sports. I don't think Nintendo has anything to worry about, as long as we keep getting good games.

As for DVD playback, my PS2 plays DVD, my DVD player plays DVDs, my computer plays DVDs, and when I get a 360 it will play DVDs. Do I really need another DVD player? I thought it was great that Nintendo took out that feature since it saved us (and them) some money.

For the state of gaming right now, the hardcore gamers will stick with the PC, because PC gaming is still the most addicitive (the only real MMO's), the most competitive (Leagues for every game, tons of e-sports support sprining up and 3rd party leagues and such are much more prevalent than any xbox live competition) and the most graphically intensive (crysis looks better than any title I've seen on a next-gen). PS3 is a failure at launch, under supplied and all the launch titles suck (sorry, resistence looks good, but it's just another FPS, nothing special and at this day and age quite boring). 360 finally found its first killer app in gears of war, which is amazing, and will probably still keep getting better as halo3 comes out. The PS3 doesn't seem to have a killer app comming out, so theres no real reason to pay a premium for a system with no good games with good replay value. 600$ to play story driven games like MGS4 and FF and RE isn't worth it. THe wii is a novelty system, cheap and fun, which is why it will have sucess with both casual gamers, because of the easy acessibility, and the hardcore gamers, because of the novelty and fun factor. 360 will stay strong with multiplayer titles like gow and halo3 over live, and ps3 has no real reason to be bought by a hardcore gamer, who has their PC, or a casual gamer, because of the price

I own one. I can't get my wife to stop playing it. This is not normal.

Like I said...its not for the real gamer. yes your wife, gf, mother, father, grand parents and maybe even your dog will want to play and will prob hae a lot more fun they would with the xbox....and thats all good and dandy..but its not going to be for the hardcore gamer..maybe not even hardcore..just the gamer that wants some kind of competition with this friends.

yes the wii has some games that are going to be a lot of fun and fun to compete with..heck my favorite game on any of the consoles of last gen is smash brothers.

Basically what I am saying is Nintedno will make its good games like it always does..they are always fun and somewhat orignal. that is all good and great...but the controller is very gimicky and a lot of games are nto gonna use it....and when you dont use the new controller your playing a overclocked gamecube.

Also...Everyone says the wii will have the best gameplay and they actually care about the fun part of it and not the graphics. why does it have to be the wii being the only one that cares about fun? I am sure there will be a lolt of fun games out for the xbox as well.

The big plus for the wii for me is the new smash, mario, zelda, all of which dont really need the controller.....the downloadable old games are awesome...but other then that i dunno.

Nintendo has had a serious image problem since the n64 came out. But in the past 10 years or so, gaming has expanded enough that they don't need to worry about how the graphics and gore "hardcore" crowd views their system...the Wii doesn't give me the impression of a childrens toy that the cube did, but their TV commercials are absolutely horrendous.

Every poll result I've seen shows different. It really amazes me, actually. Sometimes PS3 comes in second, sometimes Xbox 360 comes in second, but two things have been true in every single poll I've seen - 1. Nintendo wins. 2. Nintendo wins by a large margin. I'm sure I could dig up a poll that shows otherwise on a Xbox 360 or PS3-centric website, but on "non-partisan" websites it's Nintendo all the way.

Including every poll I've ever seen here up until the launch. I have no idea why people were thinking you'd be able to get one in stores after launch. I fully expected this shortage, and I fully expect it to last until March at the earliest. It was so obvious, especially from the polls here, that showed an overwhelming majority of people waiting to get a Wii, and couldnt care less about the PS3.
