FYI the latest news is Favre's plane is delayed until midnight-ish due to bad weather in Mississippi.
The earliest he could be on the field is Sunday right now.

Favre, even God and Mother Nature don't want you back. STAY HOME.

On the other hand, I don't think he's that good anymore anyway. On the other hand, he's better than what the Vikes have now. But on the other hand, if we won, I'd have to live with the fact that we needed Brett frickin' Favre to do it.

That`s a lot of hands!

I think Favre would give us a better chance to win than Jackson, though who knows, maybe Jackson will come in and play lights out, but I`d take my chances with Favre first.

Uhhh, the Packers rival is the Vikings, not the Bears.

You're kidding, right? The Packers-Bears are one of the oldest rivalries in the NFL. Sure, the Packers-Vikings rivalry has gained momentum but it doesnt have the history(since 1921) like the Packers-Bears.

I will argue against that. As born and raised in WI, and a life long Packers (and Favre) fan, I have to say that while the Packers/Bears is a rivalry, there is a mutual respect there amoungst the 2 teams because of the storied histories and backstories between them.

Now the Vikings? The general consensus amongst most people in WI is "Fuck them and the horse they road in on" There is ZERO respect and ZERO compassion between these two teams.

National media hypes the "rivalry" between Bears and Packers, but its nothing more than a respectful game.

Ask the players too. Its been said over and over that the have the same feelings.

I lived in Wisconsin for 38 years. Yes, the Vikings-Packers rivalry has become more intense but it cant hold a candle to the long history of the Packer-Bears. Do a web search for top-ten rivalries & the Packers-Bears are aways at number 1 or 2.

Now things are going to get interesting.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated Brett Favre on Sunday, the three-time MVP said.

The Packers couldn't confirm the reinstatement, and said because it wasn't an offical business day for the league it wasn't possible Sunday.

Nevertheless, Favre was prepared to fly to Green Bay in time to attend the sold-out Packers Family Night at Lambeau Field, which more than 60,000 fans were expected to attend.

On Saturday, Goodell said he hoped the situation would be resolved by Monday, by which team and league sources told ESPN's Wendi Nix that he was expected to act on the reinstatement.

Goodell visited the Cincinnati Bengals' training camp on Saturday before heading north to Canton, Ohio, for the weekend's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

"I'm not trying to interject myself," Goodell said in Georgetown, Ky., according to The Associated Press. "I was interjected into it because there was a tampering charge initially. I'm not looking for things to interject myself to. It's an issue that needs to be addressed because of the competing interests. You want to make sure it's done properly and within our rules. This is an issue that ultimately has to be decided between Brett and the Packers."

The Packers hold Favre's rights until his current contract expires after the 2010 season.

Tensions have built between Favre and the team over the past several weeks.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy again praised his players for not allowing the Favre situation to distract them.

"What's going on between Brett and the organization is something that the players and coaches, we cannot handle," McCarthy said Saturday. "We're not involved in it. I think they did a good job from a responsibility standpoint dealing with it for about two days, but the focus has been on improving."

Earlier this week, Favre sent a letter to Goodell requesting to be reinstated from the team's reserve/retired list. But Goodell has held off approving the request, hoping the two sides could resolve their differences.

"Primarily, it starts with the fact, does Brett want to play football?" Goodell said. "The second is, do the Packers want him to play for the Packers. Those are the two principal points that have to be resolved. And only two parties can make that determination, not me."

Goodell said both parties are being "reasonable."

"They're difficult, emotional issues," Goodell said. "They're important to the future of both

There had been indications Favre was wavering on the offer. A source close to the negotiations told Werder on Saturday that Favre has developed misgivings about the proposed deal because it fails to accomplish his primary objective in deciding to unretire -- namely, it would not put him back on the football field.

If his primary objective in unretiring is to get back on the football field, how could he even be considering this offer?

I'll stay retired for $20 million a year

His contract has $39 million left on it if he doesn't retire.

I'd love to see him go to the vikings, just for that opening MNF game alone. Favre comes out and retires his packers jersey, than walks to the other side of the field and dons the purple number 4. Then he hands of to peterson and watches him rack up 200 yards on the pack.

And, let Lawrence Taylor come out of retirement from the Giants & get traded to the Packers for one game. "LT, look! Another primadonna. Go retire that SoB"

Not when you can get $24 million even by sitting on the sidelines for 2 years as opposed to $20 million for 10 years.

you act like all that's involved in being a football player is what happens on Sunday. There's still a ton of training and practicing involved.

The $20M offered wasn't part of this "situation" (at least not upfront) It was continuation of a deal that started in Feb. of last year to keep Favre on as promotions for the Packers (Appearances, commercials, adverts etc). They never closed the deal, and just now re-opened it (conveniently of course. But many news agencies are reporting this as more a less a "bribe" offered to Favre to make him just go away, which is not true.

haha i love that there's no pleasing people here. Favre, one of the greatest players in sports history wants to keep playing and the response is to call him a "prima donna". The same Favre who never missed a game and played with broken bones is somehow a whinny bitch now?

I really can't wait for the first bad game Rogers has, there will be riots in the streets of greenbay.

I don't think there will be. The general sentiment among Packers fans (mind you not the idiot Cheeseheads) is that we are behind Rodgers, and want Favre to stay retired.

Favre is in flight and expected to land just after 7pm in Green Bay.

And here's the kicker..................................

According to the Pack, the QB spot is now in open competition between Rodgers and Favre :)

Just showed a shot of the plane landing during the NFL game, there is a crowd gathered around the perimeter fence to the landing strip several rows deep cheering his arrival.

As you said...it was pretty convenient tming on their part to open it up now. Obviously they're saying "hey, wait, we're offering you 20 million to NOT play, remember? Wouldn't you rather do that?"

LMAO the Packers could and probably should have offered that a month ago. Of course this saga isn't over yet; even if this season resolves itself, there's always next summer to look forward to. :D

if they start rogers over farve (doubt it) and rogers has a bad game the same people bitching about farve now will be begging for him to start.

but since BG say he can compete for starting position it does not matter.

God, he's such an attention whore. Now he wants to get released from the packs.

Favre says of situation: 'This probably isn't going to work'
Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre went into a meeting Tuesday morning acknowledging that he was at a "stalemate" with the team and believed the "best thing for this team is for us to part ways."

Favre left practice shortly before 3 p.m. ET Tuesday, telling ESPN's Wendi Nix that he was not going to practice. He said there would be another meeting with his family and Packers GM Ted Thompson to discuss trade possibilities, in the hopes of resolving the situation. It was not clear when that meeting would take place.

"We're at a stalemate," Favre said. "Mike and I both agreed last night that me being out there is a distraction and will continue to be a distraction. We all know the reason I'm here is because the commissioner [Roger Goodell] reinstated me so we have a lot of things to figure out. It's simple and complicated, both at the same time."

Favre said the team once again rejected his request to talk to teams about a trade within the NFC North, preferably to the Minnesota Vikings or possibly the Chicago Bears.

And while Favre left without practicing on Tuesday, sources told Nix that his wife, Deanna, and his agent, James "Bus" Cook, were encouraging him to practice.

Favre clarified reports that he and the Packers have backpedaled on the premise that there would be an open competition with Aaron Rodgers for the starting job.

"Mike told me, hey, we're a better team with you on it but wanted to know if I have a problem with an open competition," Favre said. "I don't have a problem with competing -- you know that, but Aaron should be the starter right now because he's been out here all this time. This is more than about an open competition and I can do that, absolutely, but this is going to be mass confusion and that's not good for this team.

"I'll practice my butt off, if it comes to that, and I think we all know what the end result will be, but this probably isn't going to work. And I truly understand that if I was in Mike's shoes, I'd see it basically the same way he sees it, I'm sure. And I think if he was in my shoes, he'd see it my way. I think we both agree on that.

"They want to know if I'm committed but I want to know if they're 100 percent committed. The problem is that there's been a lot of damage done and I can't forget it. Stuff has been said, stories planted, that just aren't true. Can I get over all that? I doubt it."

Favre, who officially returned from retirement Sunday, met with McCarthy for 5½ hours on Monday night without reaching a resolution. The meeting went long enough that McCarthy had to postpone a planned briefing with the media.

Favre announced his retirement on March 6, and the Packers moved ahead with Rodgers, Favre's former understudy, as the team's new starting quarterback. But Favre, still under contract with the Packers, then followed through on hints that he was interested in a return to the NFL.

The Packers have attempted to work out a trade outside the NFC North, with the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers reported as likely suitors, but to no avail. And last week, team president Mark Murphy flew to Mississippi to discuss a marketing deal for Favre worth a reported $25 million. Favre has not accepted that deal, either.

Asked what stories have been "planted," Favre alluded to the reports that said he waffled on unretiring in late March or early April. He said that's "just not the way it went down, at all."

He also expressed anger with the stories that alleged he had a team-issued cell phone that showed the Vikings were tampering with him.

"Again, that was bull on both parts," he said.

"Then," Favre said, "they tried to buy me off to stay retired."

He added, "So they can say they welcome me back but, come on, the way they've treated me tells you the truth. They don't want me back, so let's move on. I don't know where it's headed. We'll see."
