i guess if you're white it doesn't matter that arabs are being persecuted.
yup - they can take all of your freedoms away - so long as they have no possiblity of affecting you as an individual.

of course no redneck is going to be held accountable to 16 hours of questioning regarding terrorism they aren't involved with.

No white man did after tim mcveigh... and none have to worry about it in the future.

so all you whiteys that praise the removal of our freedoms, do so, knowing they can't affect you in a negative way. Go you.

however...when there's a lawsuit against the makers of grand theft auto - you guys all stumble for words to express your anger

about people threatening your freedoms. "oh no, what if they regulate video game violence!! how awful!"

sorry to be harsh...but you americans never gave a sh!t about arabs. Neither with your "mission to save the iraqis", nor with your attempt

to preserve the freedom many of the arabs enjoyed for years past in this - what's becoming - a pitiful country.

I don't think Arabs-Americans have it as bad as the Japanese-Americans did in WWII. Not even close.

Wow, and we should be satisfied that we are better than Saudi Arabia? It's good to see you hold such high standards for America. Nice sig by the way.
rolleye.gif

Point is, many of the people being rounded up and brought in for questioning etc, are AMERICAN MUSLIMS, not some undocumented illegals, but our fellow countrymen. It might not matter to a lot of you because they are a different color and a different religion and you may not have any contact with them whatsoever, but if you are true patriots as a lot of you right wingers like to call yourselves, you would be opposed to anything that unfairly humiliates and degrades your fellow countrymen, no matter what creed or color. We hold ourselves to such lofty standards yet we ruined many lives in WWII by interning Japanese Americans and we will do the same now in the "war on terror". I bet you're proud to call Ashcroft your attorney general, eh Big Dude?

Yeppers, a night in the pokey will turn any thoughtful and peaceful Arab Muslim individual into a homicidal extremist.

Another take on the story from the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

(Must register to view. Therefore, the entire report is posted)

Two Canadian Islamic leaders were set to fly back to Toronto on Friday after federal agents at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport denied them entry into the country.

"Because of security reasons, they were found inadmissible," said Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Nina Pruneda.

She would not elaborate, but a local Muslim civil rights leader said he was outraged because the men reported comments from an agent that they had picked the wrong day to fly -- Sept. 11.

"Since when are Muslims throughout the world being told they cannot travel on Sept. 11?" asked Altaf Ali, Florida executive director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "Does that mean we are being held responsible for the actions of 19 individuals?"

Ali visited one of the two men, Ahamed Kutty, in jail in Fort Lauderdale on Friday. He said Kutty reported being questioned from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents summoned the FBI to question Canadian citizens Kutty and Abdool Hamid, who are natives of India and Guyana.

"We cleared them. We didn't think there was any reason to detain them any longer," the FBI's Miami spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said. "Whatever Customs decided to do, that wasn't anything we told them to do."

This gives the sense that there was no legitimate security concern, said Howard Simon, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Florida.

"This is a troubling episode because it appears to be an example of how our government is using religion and ethnicity and national origin as a basis for suspicion," he said.

Both Kutty, 59, and Hamid, 38, have been quoted in the Canadian press as denouncing Islamic extremism. Family in Toronto said the men are well known as moderate and tolerant scholars.

The men touched down in Fort Lauderdale on the way to Orlando, where they were scheduled to lead Friday prayers and other religious activities over the weekend. Relatives said they were frantic until early Friday, when the men called and told them briefly about what had happened.

"It was very heart-wrenching to hear that the two of them were in jail," said Hamid's wife, Sheleza Hamid.

Kutty's son said his mother was nearly sick with fear and regret at having encouraged Kutty to travel to the United States.

"Since Sept. 11, he's been concerned about going to the United States anyway, just like any Muslim. We hear horror stories here," Faisal Kutty said.

"But we told him not to worry, you're well known here, you've been here since 1972, you're openly critical of all forms of extremism, so you don't have anything to fear," he said. "But I don't think they care about any of those things."

You better check on Terry Nichols, who is up for murder for over 160 counts, soon to go on trial in Oklahoma.

What's probably the biggest mystery to me is why anyone even responds to BigDude's posts. They are such blatant attempts to troll, they border on being humorous.

Get back to US after you examine your country's insane "refugee" policies.
Paying criminals and unknowns cash and other social benefits for succesfully smuggling themselves onto your liberal shores does not give you ANY room for slamming anything we do to protect ourselves, our country or our freedoms.
Stupid ? Not when compared to UK "Asylum seeker" policies.

Did Canada sign into the Union during the weekend?
If Canada did as much to examine the Trans-Atlantic flow of Young Saudi / Muslim / Middle Eastern men between the ages of 18 and 45 as was legally available to them, and not have a border like a sieve, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Martin Luther King Jr. was willing to die fighting for his cause because he was prejudiced against. There is violent group like Black Panther because they were prejudiced against. And you are saying putting a innocent people in jail just because they are Arab, looks Arab or speaks Arab not going to do anything? I guess people like you who is born of the privileged race who never have to face prejudice or racism has the authority on the feeling of hate and resentment when you are prejudiced against.:disgust:

You disgrace MLK by lumping him in with the Black Panthers. If you had any shred of respect for MLK you would have learned about the man: He advocated non-violent civil disobedience you ignorant buffoon.

As lilly white as I am, I spent my early young adult years living in Detroit. If you don't think I was subjected to racism because of the color of my skin while taking residence there, you're more of an idiot than I thought.

We need a civilized society which demands a degree of control by authority. Freedom as we know it requires a continous learning process of what is too much and what is too little control variable to the current events of our time.

Did I mention anywhere MLK fought with violance? Just making a point on how far people go when they had to deal with injustice. Seems to me you think putting people in jail just because they are Arab, or look Arab is not a big deal and people would just live with that kind of treatment.

Talking about respect for MLK, what about you give some respect to the cause he fought for?

Oh you poor thing, couldn't get into U of Mich. because of the Aff. action? When you are stop on the street by the cop or put in the jail by the cop for no reason, you can start complain about racism.

really, and were these random white people found and interrogated 2 years after the incident?

edit: aww some of you get upset when the term redneck or hick is used to refer to white people.. how touching. imagine how we feel when you refer to every other mid-eastern person (besides an israeli, of course) as a terrorist. suck it up you moron.

Agreed. In all fairness, though, it's a no-win situation. We know with virtual certainty there anti-US terrorists in this country, and that many, if not most, are Muslims and Arabs. If they stop people, they're doing racial profiling. If they don't, they're not protecting America.

I think this is wrong, but I won't pretend to have a better answer.

i think what u said is very true. damned if we do, damned if we dont. id rather be damned if we do and save lives. whats the worst that could happen? insult someone's pride? waste a few hours of someone's life? if it saves countless lives, why not. i mean if the people being pulled over, etc have nothing to hide, why worry too much. im not a muslim, but i can see how i would be mad if i was wrongfully accused....but as long as im not wrongfully convicted, id swallow my pride and realize that it is my fellow muslims that has caused this upon me. dont forget, there were many muslims who died in 9.11 and Osama said something like any muslim who supprts america is not a real muslim or something like that

Non-citizens visiting our country are at the mercy of our scrutiny. The participants in regard to this thread topic were inconvenienced and probably faced a good amount of humiliation. Too bad so sad. I set off the metal detector at SFO this past saturday and had to deal with inconvenience and mild humiliation. That said, I do believe that all citizens should be treated with the same amount of fairness and scrutiny. Non-citizens--all bets are off, deal with it or don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Hah, what makes you think I don't? Because I said I'm lilly white? I've got a pretty nice tan going right now, dark course hair, and just happened to have a nice scruffy looking beard (hmmmm, maybe I should have shaved, eh?).......I just about fit your profile to a "T".
