Wow if they were to arrest all the people that looked like that and had names like that in Virginia we'd have over 50,000 people in jail right now just in Northern VA.!

Oh look, another security measure justifiably taken by the US.

"Well, we thought they looked guilty, so they must have been" type thing.

Stupid yanks.

I wonder how often this type of thing happens to Muslims and Arabs who don't have the ability to make it public. One day the nation will look bakc on this period with shame - and rightfully so...

It can't be any where close to being as bad as being an Orphan on the Streets of Rio De Janero

By arresting anyone who looks even vaguely suspicious, to the point of being against those people who are muslims? (basically what happened here)
Then have the audacity to claim anyone who says anything bad about the Jews as being an anti-semite.

What makes you think most of the american caucasians are all white. On my census I put white and so did my family, however we are not white.

It's called fascism, which is what direction our country is heading being lead by this administration.

Hmmm, do you think all cities here are violent as Rio de Janeiro?

I just said that, because you all praise your freedom as if you have more freedom than every country in the world, but that's not true. And a funny thing, your country is taking your freedom away to "protect" you and apparently you all are ok with that. Go figure...

There are people being held for months and now years without any charges, so 16 hours is no big deal.

it is a big deal that people are held for months and no one complains, so this is hopefully a start of something bigger

Agreed. In all fairness, though, it's a no-win situation. We know with virtual certainty there anti-US terrorists in this country, and that many, if not most, are Muslims and Arabs. If they stop people, they're doing racial profiling. If they don't, they're not protecting America.

I think this is wrong, but I won't pretend to have a better answer.

There is no such thing as absolute freedom. That would be more akin to the Wild Wild West, where laws are made up as you go, and the power belongs to those with the biggest gun. We need a civilized society which demands a degree of control by authority. Freedom as we know it requires a continous learning process of what is too much and what is too little control variable to the current events of our time.

Wow, and we should be satisfied that we are better than Saudi Arabia? It's good to see you hold such high standards for America. Nice sig by the way.

Point is, many of the people being rounded up and brought in for questioning etc, are AMERICAN MUSLIMS, not some undocumented illegals, but our fellow countrymen. It might not matter to a lot of you because they are a different color and a different religion and you may not have any contact with them whatsoever, but if you are true patriots as a lot of you right wingers like to call yourselves, you would be opposed to anything that unfairly humiliates and degrades your fellow countrymen, no matter what creed or color. We hold ourselves to such lofty standards yet we ruined many lives in WWII by interning Japanese Americans and we will do the same now in the "war on terror". I bet you're proud to call Ashcroft your attorney general, eh Big Dude?

Another Canadian Citizen currently is being tortured in a Syrian jail thanks to the US Immigration authorities. So, in a sense, this is at least not a totally mucked up situation.

Yes I am! What about you, were you proud of Janet Reno? What about burning children to death at Waco? How about Elian Gonzales?
