Why did blacks in the 1960s expect society to change for them?

Headgear is OPTIONAL. Skin color is NOT.

There is NO comparison. None whatsoever. Do NOT compare demands for special treatment based on religion to demands for equal treatment based on skin color.

I was covering his blanket statement more than the topic at hand, but anyway....

Don't you think forcing to her to not abide by her non-harmful religous practice is a bit extreme though? A bit of common sense goes a long way.

All the judge had to say is, "Well she's a muslim. Don't worry about it. No one's rights have been violated because she wore some headgear."

There is NOTHING not harmful about her religion. It is a disease.

Why is the ACLU not dispatching a team of lawyers to make sure that religion isn't trumping law? If these was a Christian with some silly hat with a cross being allowed shit would hit the fan

Yeah, in your house, or walking down the street. You enter a courtroom with rules and regulations, you stfu and abide. Too bad your stupid traditions aren't allowed there, deal with it.

Either the rules apply equally, or they do not. To make exceptions based on religion is saying one class does not have to follow a rule all other classes must follow.

no one is stopping her from doing that, she is being refused entry to the courtroom and she is not plaintiff nor prosecution, meaning her presence is not required.

Well thats why they founded this country because in england practicing their religion was against the law so I don't see what you are getting at.

What if my religion says I must kill my wife if she cheats on me?

Should I be allowed to do so because that's what my religion says to do?

Obviously not.

Your rights end where others begin.

If the court has an EQUAL rule that no headgear is allowed, than it applies to ALL not just some.

Oh bullshit. Rules can be bent and exceptions can be made.

Again the people that think this is ok, what about a hat with a big cross on it? Would that be ok, why or why not? And if this was a Christian, do you think the ACLU would be fighting against it?

So do you think that a woman wearing a hat is worth the trouble of law suits? It seems like a silly rule to begin with.

And isn't being held in contempt solely at the discretion of the judge? This whole ordeal could have been easily avoided, with no one getting their toes stepped on.

If you check some of my old posts at P&N you'd see I am hugely for freedom and people being left the fuck alone, but apparently you can't understand the the difference between freedom in your home and in public and the law in a court room.

Actually as a public courthouse she has the same right to attend any public hearing as anyone else.

This has nothing to do with tolerance.

She demanded SPECIAL treatment and the right to break a rule that is applied equally to all. Instead of equal rights, she wanted UNequal rights.

Why why can sport hats not be allowed? If a religious article is but not a sports crap, isn't that some sort of discrimination?
