Muslim Victim Asks Texas to Stop Execution of Man Who Shot Him

The man the OP describes is a good man, and people should strive to be like him.

I hope the state grants clemency in this case, a victim that's willing to forgive should be taken into account for a criminals punishment.

I wish the American justice system would lean more to mediation in conflicts.
 
Under Islamic law, the victim has no jurisdiction over a perpetrator once the case has been raised to the court. The man should be executed not for shooting a particular person, but for shooting anyone.

The article didn't even contain the names of the guys two other murder victims, maybe they can apply for mediation also....... ooops too bad they're dead!

But those costs aren't real. I absolutely guarantee you that I can execute someone for under $50. Box of ammo, gun rental, 1 hour of pay @ $10/hr. Done. Anything beyond that is a made up expense.

BTW, it would be nice if some news outlets would interview the loved ones of the two murder victims. They might be a lot less forgiving...

Re: the costs, in this case the appeals process has already been paid for. Going through with the execution at this point would cost next to nothing.

Funny, victims and their families in Saudi Arabia are afforded the right to pardon their transgressors before an execution is to take place. This happens more often than not. But then it's Saudi Arabia, what they hell do they know about Islamic Law...


This man is "walking the walk" as far as his religious convictions are concerned and I can respect that even if I don't subscribe to those convictions myself. It be nice if more religious types could do the same instead of using their "faith" more as a cultural and national identity, rife with hypocrisy and dogma.

I'm guessing this will be downplayed, ridiculed or outright rejected by many due to him being a muslim.

Most here are completely for executing a white supremacist who killed people that appeared to be of Middle Eastern decent, just because they were of that ethnicity. Yea, totally xenophobic and racist on our part. You completely nailed it yet again.

It already is. Especially on these forums. Most are pretty clear, they hate Muslims. And, it based on the actions of a few.

They should be hating on Islamic extremists and fundamentalists. But, that means they have to think before they hate. And, thinking would deprive them of hating on the innocent.

Which, makes me realize, they just don't like "brown" people.

You're an idiot. You seem to think that the religious convictions of one of the victims involved in this case should be the overriding concern about what the punishment is. I'd like to see you justify why the punishment should be different depending if victims forgive the crime or not.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I don't think sharia law is the controlling law in Texas.

This issue comes up quite often in jurisdictions that have the death penalty. Perhaps over simplified, the victim's desire for clemency can mean a great deal before trial and sentencing, very little thereafter.

That is nice if he wants to forgive the man. But the law has spoken and he shall be put to death regardless of being forgiven or not. This man is not the law.
