Musical 'guilty pleasures'

grrl

To restate, what bands do you like even though you don't consider them to be great musicians, singers, lyricists, etc.

Ten Years After is one for me. I particularly like the Cricklewood Green and A Space in Time albums, even though the lyrics can be pretty weak and the music fairly basic.

I also put Traffic in the weak lyrics group.

Well, not a band per se, but video game music. I grew up with it, so I'm quite fond of it, even when it's cliche or cheesy.

😕 Interesting answer.

Same, and especially the cutesy Kirby and Pokemon stuff.

None. I like what I like. I like Nickelback and Fall Out Boy because I like the sound of their music. I don't critique it.

Now put me in front of an orchestra or chorus, and my critic's hat drops over my eyes 😀

Edit: I'll also critique popular music if it's lyrically complex, but beyond that...

I heard a pretty rockin song on the radio the other day, I was like "who is that?" And the DJ came on after the song and said it was My Chemical Romance. Long story short, I am now gay.

LOL

Fall Out Boy, The Killers, basically any popular "punk/rock" song (and I mean mainstream popular). I can only handle small dosages though.

Seconded. Although I do think Amy Lee is exteremly talented, and pretty in a "I will eat your soul" kind of way. The rest of her band is weak though. They could probably swap out the drummer and guitarists with random people off the street and I would never know it.

The funny thing is their drummer is actually a really talented lead guitarist. He quit his previous band (Living Sacrifice) to be in Evanescence. I can't blame him for wanting to actually make money.

Some embarrassing weaknesses for me include Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Staind, and Chris Daughtry. I actually own 1 cd from the first two I mentioned, though ostensibly they were for my wife...

I wouldn't say Staind is a mediocre band. Good, but not mediocre.

I kinda like blink-182 and bought all three Creed albums back in High school. 😀 Creed isn't that bad - I like some of their songs (Torn, Are You Ready, Faceless Man, With Arms Wide Open, Higher, My Sacrifice) and actually like them more than Alter-Bridge.

I also like Linkin Park, and even got their last album. And yeah, I have Puddle of Mudd's first two records and I enjoy some of the songs on them.

The Cardigans, for sure.

Absolutely.

Also have to put in cheesy 80's stuff like Mickey, 99 Red Balloons and the countless (and timeless) monster ballads by the big hair people.

No kidding, the only reason I like Evanesence is because of Amy Lee. I love female lead vocalists.

I listen to a tonne of crap that people would probably laugh at, but I don't care because I likes what I likes.
