they all pay shit.

I can either work on milk bottling machinery, or industrial HVAC, both are assembly line and require more knowledge than I have but they will train me.

I guess beggars ≠ choosers.

A long time ago I almost accepted an offer to go to Alaska to work on a fishing boat. Seriously.

The pay was really good.

You've given hope to millions of unemployed in this country. If shorty can get multiple job offers, no one has any excuse!

Everyone keeps saying the job market and the real economy is terrible. Shorty is proof these people are wrong.

Congrats and good luck shortylickens!

What happened to the Aerotek job you were talking about at the "other" site?

It is better to have a job and keep looking rather than not have a job when you are looking. If the pay is shit do not feel guilty taking a new job. They need no reason to dump you! So feel free to walk any time.

Every once in a while I get some self esteem.
Luckily there's always a manager not far down the road to remind me of my place in the world.
Suffice to say I shan't be assembling HVACs any time soon

If it ever goes to your head you can always count on ATOT to cut you down to size!

;)

Seriously though sorry it (apparently?) didn't go well. Don't let it get you down it means nothing about the next interview.

:)

They want someone with loads of experience who can walk right in and start working with no supervision. I have such limited experience with electrical assembly that even a seminar and a one month probationary period would not help me.

That sort of thing really aggravates me. :confused_old:

A couple of simple screening questions would likely have avoided you stressing out and wasting your time, plus on their end screened out more non-qualified applicants.

You would think that would be a win-win but it seems like a LOT of companies just half-ass it then are surprised when people don't work out.

So you work, learn on the job, put your 40 hours in (and no more if you're not getting paid OT), and if you get let go then you get let go. The worst that happens is you gain some experience and earn some dollar. If it's a short stint it doesn't even go on your resume and if anyone asks you spent that time improving your skillset.

I think the recruiter is desperate to fill jobs, so he's sending everybody out for everything.

Remember, when you do something you like as a job, you start to hate it anyway. Doing anything for somebody else sucks. Pick the one that has the best positives perks even if it's not necessarily what you want to do. ex: good pay, good hours, close to home, low stress, etc. These are all the things to look at.

I ended up "downgrading" to NOC to get out of a toxic IT environment even though NOC is not exactly the type of work I wanted to do... and it turned out to be the best decision ever. It's a cushy job with awesome hours, and the pay actually ends up being a little more since it's 40 hour weeks instead of 37.5. It's not a high end corporate ladder type job to brag about but it pays the bills and is super low stress and has awesome hours. Oddly enough in my case it's the highest paying job in the company outside of management. Any time a network tech job comes up I think it would be nice to do something a bit more up my alley, but it would involve a pay cut and going back to working every week day instead of having all the time off I get now.
