"We are not commenting on the guilt or innocence of any defendant."

That's it that's all. He won't be saying anything of substance here. Let the report stand and let the rest fight over it.

Holy shit.

"If we had confidence the President did not commit a crime, we would have said so."

Did he just say that?

Yea, seems pretty damning. I'm not sure how much more obvious he can make it without explicitly saying that Trump obstructed justice.

Yes he did. He also said that the President could not be indicted and so per policy he would not comment on an incident that could not be tried. Apparently he's not going to cooperate with Congress or if he does he'll merely read the report.

Smart move to resign before Trump can attack his retirement.

Mueller is a coward. Is it any more obvious he is a lifelong Republican? Congress should subpoena him.

Still, a nothingburger. He is a Republican, after all.

He followed the principles of the DOJ from long before there was a Trump on the radar but take note that he gave us an answer without providing one that violates regs and professional ethics with "if the President was innocent we would have said so", at least to paraphrase.

Pretty much: The DoJ can't charge the President with a crime. Congress has the procedures to handle this situation. They should handle it.

You know what's not a good idea? Attacking people as you have because he didn't say exactly what you wanted. Anyone who calls Mueller a coward doesn't know the least bit about him and a Republican? Yeah he is. So we line them all up and shoot them because "we all know" that no true Republican" can have an ethical bone in his body?

Sounds a lot like Republicans and Trump about Dems, too much for me.

My expectation level is set to nada. I hope to be wrong but I don't think I will be.

The DOJ is the one driving this. He will be cut off at the knees and told what he can say.

Me too, but I can hope that he will go off script and say that his report found plenty of evidence of obstruction of justice and that obstructions likely successful in preventing his investigation from finding evidence of collusion.

I think things like this are important though because video might penetrate better.

Nobody read the mueller report so most didn’t realize it already said what he said today - they didn’t indict Trump because they couldn’t, not because there weren’t grounds to.

I hope this gets a lot of play. Also, this shows even more clearly why he must testify before Congress.

This really does settle the questions about Barr. He is full of shit and a Trump toadie. He (Barr) lied to everyone about Mueller's decision making on whether or not policy played any role.

Fine you don't charge the President, what about Jr and Kushner?

Appears he simply doggedly adheres to the rules. He said if they could say Trump did not commit a crime, they would have. Then he says they can't charge the President because of the DOJ rule. He as much as said Trump committed obstruction and would have been charged, if not for being President. But he can't outright say that, because without an arrest and trial, Trump can't defend himself against that allegation in a court, as it would just be his statement without a criminal charge and trial. It's obvious he expects Trump to be impeached, as he committed a crime, and that is the only recourse. Crazy town, decades of propaganda from Fox and right-wing conspiracy sites has radicalized Trump's base to the point they just ignore reality and choose to believe what feels good.

His quandary appears to be he'd have to violate his integrity/ethics to outright say what is obvious on the face of his report.

Not because he didn't say what I wanted (and what do you think it is that I want?) because he said he won't go to Congress. He just spoke about the Constitution, so he should know he doesn't have the choice but to go to Congress and testify fully to what ever they ask him. He owes the country more than his statement. Like Comey, he has put himself and his "reputation" over the right thing. And by the way, he is bending over backwards to be more than fair to Trump.
