Just heard on CBS Up to the minute news that Mr. Rogers died in his home early this morning. He was battling stomach cancer for a while I guess.

No link as I just heard it on the news 🙁

I remember watching him all the time on PBS. He will be missed 🙁

Is Capt Kangaroo still alive?

Captain Kangaroo aka Bob Keeshan is still alive and teaches special programs with children. SO he is at least doing his thing.

That's good to know, he always kinda freaked me out (I think it was his side burns?)

RIP Mr. Rogers he was definitely an American icon and touched millions of lives on a daily basis.

a very nice tribute, Fritzo...

Mr. Rogers was one of the only shows I watched growing up. He was an institution. I was just reminiscing the other day, so this is quite strange. While sad, I will always remember with a smile 🙂 Rest in peace, neighbor...

that sucks. my son loved watching Mr. Rogers.

it amazed me that even with all the new, flashy shows and cartoons, he liked watching the relatively low-tech, simple Mr. Rogers.

🙁

A great man in so many ways. I'm so glad he never turned out to be a sicko pee-ween herman like so many of the type.

Mr Rogers was a great show. If you get a chance, watch The Best of Saturday Night Live with Eddie Murphy. They do Mr Robinsons neighborhood and that is some very funny stuff. He will be missed.

What a great guy.
Well, at least I no longer have to prove to people that he's not dead (you would not believe how many people thought he was dead already!).

i honestly thought he had passed away already 😱

A great man for sure. Like many here I watched his show every day (it was my utter favorite) when I was a little tyke. My mom says that I also had some of his LPs and I wore them out from playing them so much.

One thing that was so cool about watching Mr. Rogers is that the episodes are timeless. They don't seem dated or stale at all (to a little kid especially). It's my hope (and expectation) that Fred Rogers will continue to enthrall the hearts and minds of little kids in syndication for decades to come. Thankfully for us he is on public television, which isn't so concerned about the "latest, greatest thing".

Yes, it's sad, but in his 74 years he's given us enough sage lessons to last a lifetime. We are fortunate to have them recorded, so that future generations will have a chance to hear his wise words in the guise of entertainment. Hopefully they too will come away from watching Mr. Rogers with a solid understanding of what it is to love and be loved.

I heard the news on the radio this morning and it jolted me like I lost a family member or something. But heck, with younger siblings, my 4 kids, and now my little grandson, I think I've been watching the guy continuously since he started on TV. He was always gentle, kind and interesting, and I liked what it did to the kids when they watched him - slowed things down a little.

I confess: I would get into the stories and even on days the kids weren't around, I'd tune in to see what happened over in Land of Make Believe. Ah, the joys of working out of the house.

He'll be missed. Though he'll still be on TV, I'm sure.

Thanks, Mr. Rogers.
