For those of us who arent American - who is Mr Rogers - what did he do?

He basically hosts a kids show called Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. You have your usual singing, puppets, activities, etc. What made his show special was him. Pretty gentle, calm, soothing guy. A lot of us grew up watching him so it hits close to home. He really reminds us of our youth and time of innocence.

He was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer just after the holidays this year.
It's not such a wonderful day in the neighborhood today.
Rest in peace, gentle man. 🙁

It wasn't.

My youngest daughter is still asleep but she'll be saddened by the news. She loved the trolley and the Kingdom of Make Believe. <ding> <ding>

I used to watch Mr. Rogers Neighborhood to improve my English listening skil, and I'd learned a lot of stuffs besides that. A sad day 🙁

Mr. Rogers was a rarity in television. He was a genuinely gentle, tender, caring human being that cared more about the kids that he educated for the last 30+ years through his PBS show than he did about himself or his career. The point of his show was not to entertain children, but to stimulate their curiosity, and how to respect themselves and other people. The show also encouraged parents to be nurturing to their children...something that needs to be promoted more through the media these days.

I remember seeing one of those lame "hidden camera" TV shows a few years back where they tried to make Mr. Rogers angry by causing all these inconveniences in the hotel room he was about to stay at. First, they told him that there would be no TV...he said "That's OK, I'll read my books." They then said there would be no blankets for the bed. He replied by saying "No problem...I can cover up with sheets. I'll turn the heat up a bit if I get cold." They kept doing stuff like this to him, and while most people would have been FURIOUS, he ended up offering to help the staff out if there was anything he could do. They could not make him angry! The whole joke backfired and they honored his patience. They ended up not showing the whole joke on the show, but I saw the whole thing later on a bloopers special. It's very rare to find a person of this caliber. We sorely need someone like him in our world today, but there doesn't appear to be anyone to take his place. Hopefully we will let our children watch him in reruns for years to come. I know I am partially the person I am today due to Mr. Roger's Neighborhood...and I thank him for that. He shall be missed. 🙁
