They are here too. Except for the Patriot Act. It seems to be, at least now, that it's hands-off for businesses, but eyes always on the individual citizen.

did anyone notice who bitched and got the fbi on it? MPAA. if they hadn't whined, that guy would have been left alone.

Of course. How can the police know if someone is stealing from you or not unless you tell them?

Perhaps it was continuous pressure. Maybe that's why it took 3 years. They kept back-burnering it hopeing it would go away. But the MPAA kept pushing it and they eventually had to do something.

Wouldn't you do the same if someone was stealing from you?

I was proposing an idea on why it may have taken so long. Wasn't giving any opinion on the matter.

Could have been that enough money was being lobbied by the MPAA to the right folks to step on some toes at the FBI and get things moving.

And FWIW on them searching the apt and watching them get dressed (while it shouldn't have been a raid IMO), I can certainly understand watching them dress. I've unfortunately had my home subject to a raid by the state police because of an illegal activity a roommate was into (was completely unaware of it, they did the raid while he was gone).

I was in the shower at the time and when I got out they left a trooper in my room while I got dressed. Was for their safety, in case I went for a gun or destroying evidence, etc. So I understand why they stayed for them getting dressed.

Every year we lose just a little more of our civil freedom in this country. It's sad to just see it all erode away. :( :|

It's not your civil freedom to use copyrighted material for your website.

And it's NOT the governments freedom to invoke the patriot act in a non-terrorist related investigation. Period. And THAT'S why this case is so awful.

Where is the proof the patriot act was used? I mean, besides the claims of a criminal defendant?

What's on the website? Any copyrighted material? If so, he probably deserved it.
I honestly don't know, but it's really more an issue of priorities IMHO. Some guy with SG1 eps on his site isn't going to ram a passenger plane into the Sears Tower any time soon.

You got a point there....This homeland security and copyright B.S needs a serious enema.

eh? we were never talking about terrorists here. A guy is breaking the law and is getting the consequences for it. Just because there are other problems doesn't mean we should stop enforcing the law on minor issues.

What is great is to see the Lemming ATOT Effect in full swing to see everybody bitch about the government. Then it is seen that the guy is pretty guilty so the bitching turns into something slightly different.

Get over it you guys, look I am a huge fan of SG-1 television series however if this guy was asked to stop doing what he was doing and he was involved in criminal activities it is pretty cut and dry.

You guys crack me up, overreacting over something you know little, if anything, about.

this is why voting is important :)

Yeah, because the president has sooo much control over this kind of stuff.

He's only the chief law enforcement officer of the United States.
Hrm, interesting. I mean he is the head of the Executive branch, as in executing/carrying out duties. Not sure that makes him the head law enforcement officer though.

The DOJ reports to the president, not Congress.

SO? Is a Mayor the Chief Law Enforcement officer? No, the Chief of Police is. Stop being obtuse and useless like you always are.
