cRPG update:

It rocks. It absolutely rocks.

I went from a pitchfork-wielding peasant wearing a burlap sack to a mad, blood-covered, military-pick-to-the-skull, horse-lancing, tincan-murdering specialist stone cold bastard that makes enemies back up when I advance.

Sooooooo fun. 🙂

best get the 2-handed morning star asap. That weapon is unreal.

I highly recommend this game, guys. The manual swinging/blocking mechanics are great, and makes even a jaded gamer feel a rush of adrenaline. The SP can be great fun, but the UI can be annoying unless you install a few mods.

MP is a blast, and it's worth buying M&B if only for the cRPG mod.

EDIT: Sidenote... cRPG is getting a big patch in the near future that should make it a lot easier to get into. It will be very easy to get XP, until you hit a softcap, so most players will all be around the same level pretty quickly.

What are some recommended SP mods?

This is the mod I'm hoping for...

"You have encountered a Wild Charizard. You have 85 men fit for battle."

N.B. Unfortunately, this is completely fake.

What are some recommended SP mods?

Heya Blue. The major ones I'm using for SP are (and you can find a great list of mods HERE)

OSP] This includes both CC and Diplomacy below and adds/fixes some other stuff. Great mod collection.

: This one I'd consider essential. Too much to list, really, but it adds a lot more functionality without changing the heart of the game.

Diplomacy Another essential mod. Adds a MASSIVE amount of functionality, check the post for details.

More
Horses
Adds a bunch of gorgeous horse skins and some minor horse stat changes

More Warhorses Same, but for warhorses. Some REALLY gorgeous horses in this one.

Polished Landscapes VAST improvement to graphics textures. Makes the game look fantastic.

Bear in mind that some of these mods require .ini edits and you should read all the instructions for each one's install carefully. Once you do one or two you'll get the hang of it.

Great game, I love forming my own nation and stomping on everyone. There's a few mods including Diplomacy, more companions, more unit types that add a lot to it. Always fun riding around and chopping people in the noggin.

I've been playing the Floris mod for a few weeks. It merges pieces from ~31 other mods (including most of the ones in the previous post). Tons of new content and stuff to do. Also, much easier to install than piecing together all the mods yourself.

Yah, it's not the easiest game to mod, so using a single mod pack is a great idea if you like all the stuff in it.

If I'd have noticed this thread sooner, I'd have grabbed it for sure at $10. I hope this one's on sale again before it's over...

Warband seems a little harder in single player than regular because as best as I can remember you didn't pay an upgrade fee when upgrading your troops. This seems to eat up your money pretty fast.

A great way to make money though selling prisoners. In original by default all troops sold for 50 denares but in this one they sell based on unit type. Most bandits are worth ~100 a piece. I've noticed that having a ton of upgraded manhunters in my party (who I originally picked up by accident since they were free/cheap cavalry to speed up the world map) has really increased my knockout rate and thus money. Too bad manhunters aren't easy to get.
