29.99 now 10 bucks.

I'm not sure where to put this, some people don't read hot deals section.

Anyways. Definitely worth 10 bucks for sure. Offers Multiplayer abilities for those of you familiar with M&B.

I bought M & B for $5 before and I felt it was the best $5 I ever spent on a game, for $10 I'll def pick this up.

Warband has all the features of the original game plus more, right? In other words, there's really no reason to buy the first game?

There are some mods for the original M&B that haven't been ported to Warband yet (like Prophecy of Pendor, which is the most awesomist awesomey awe... I digress). Other than wanting to play those mods, there's no reason to buy the first game.

Correct-

The mods (which make the game pretty amazing) are being ported to the second game. So yes, the second is better. It adds multiplayer, and a few more differences to the single player game.

The graphics and physics have improved marginally but that's where the mods come in. It's definately playable.

Idk if it's me or this game is just harder, which I don't mind though pretty frustrating. I'm too poor to afford a decent sized army, but when I was finally able to get a decent sized army 100 bandits just attack me and I have to start all over again, all I'm doing now is making a small and fast army so I can pick off smaller enemies, but can escape from the big groups.

I found this game to be addicting and awesome, although it was pretty buggy at release. It seems like the bugs have mostly been fixes through the many patches, and I can't see any reason not to recommend the game in its current state.

How much better is it over the original?

The graphics are marginally better, but the changes to combat and the fact that there is now an actual end-game goal possible make it a better game than the original. It isn't really a different game so much as a more polished and complete version of the original. The ability for MP is the biggest difference, but I haven't actually even tried that.

I havent tried MP either since its not something I'm interested in personally but many in the M&B community wanted it and there is a lot of praise for it. I'd say the game is twice as good now as the original but that is just my opinion. Considering how much time you can put into this game $10 is a heck of a good deal.

$10 for Warband is almost like legally stealing. One of the best game I've played. I hope the M&B franchise keep growing and not be tainted by the big publishers.

Yup. This is a great game, from a small publisher that deserves some props.

There is an extremely active modding community which has even added magical spells etc to the game.

Dear Anandtech dudes,

Thanks for recommeding Warband. I'm seriously HOOKED hard on SP. It did need some more polish, but the OSW mod (Diplomacy, Custom Commander, and more) has sorted out almost all my problems and improved the game tenfold.

It's aaaawwweeeeeesome!

Glad I could help!

Try cRPG mod. It's an excellent multiplayer mod that makes the game SWEET online-

Start off as a butcher knife wielding peasent and work your way up to a Flamberge wielding plate clad maniac.

Levels/XP/Gold based on kills/wins. 60 vs 60 maps.

Thanks Powernick! I'd heard about cRPG... Alright, will give it a shot sometime, if I can tear myself away from pushing for war with the Sarranids!

Modding M&B reminds me of oldschool modding, where a bunch of flags need to be set in .ini files and whatnot. Do you use Polished Landscapes? Unlike other mods that just go in the Modules folder, this one needs to overwrite some main M&B files and I'm leery of messing with my Steam M&B folder.

Yeah, I love it.
Started off as a woman from the steppes, no noble birth or anything. Decided to tour the cities for tournaments, winning my fair share. Now I'm in charge of a company of 50, have my own estate, participated in some sieges and political intrigue the game gives you. Got in the face of many a noble who decried my 'matronly clothes' and that I would work better in the kitchens than their throne rooms.
Going to ahve to start up another character and try out the cRPG mod.

I've been too busy playing crpg mod that I haven't modded my Warband as nearly as much as my original M&B.

A few things about CRPG though.

You download the mod, and join a crpg server. After playing a few times and hopefully winning some gold (A GOOD round is like 100-150 gold)

You log into the crpg.net site (I don't have the exact address on me) and input a name (Character name) and a fresh password into the log on and BOOM. You can start upgrading and leveling your character.

After every battle your profile is updated on the Crpg.net website.

you must re-log onto the crpg battle server for your changes to load up. So if your in a game and bought a new battle axe on the website you'll need to relog into the game for it to show up on your character.

You get gold/xp for being NEAR a kill so sword and board up as a peasent and try to stay near combat while not getting shish-kabobed.

Weapon Difficulty is based off Strength by the way. Difficulty 14= STR 14 requirement

That is my mini-faq- Let me know what you guys think of cRPG after you try it out.

I'm still playing my original SP game with no mod. I think I'm going to install some OSP mods and start over. I'm really interested in the "1257 AD" mod, has any one tried it? I'm a little hesitant to install it coz it's still in alpha stage, I don't want to deal with many bugs.

Powernick, I was surfing the cRPG forum and it sounds like a total blast. I'll definitely be signing up sometime.

moon - I know I had to restart my game once I used OSW, so sooner is better than later.

No idea about 1257, but even a polished mod like OSW only recently addressed some pretty serious bugs. I get the impression that the modders are serious, but with so many complexities it's tricky to get a stable, bug-free build.

Missed/Forgot about the sale back in August. I'm hoping Steam has it around the $10 mark during their Xmas sales.
