You can shoot an intruder in the UK, if he's coming at you with a knife AFAIK.
If you jump through enough hoops to be able to posess a gun in the first place...and I'd bet they'd find someway to lock you up for it anyway

how!? we're not allowed guns ffs! our country is retarded with self defence. someone i know smacked a burglar over the head and called his friends for help driving him away and dumping him miles away.

less risk that way than hoping you don't get charged for defending your home against some scum

Sad to hear her husband died of cancer recently, but anyone notice the picture of her 'husband' they showed? Looks like it was from the 70 or 80's....??
And if you didn't read the article, the mother is 18.

The father must have been in his 50s, easily. Wow, lol.

Good for her, wish every state was castle state.

Didn't this also happen to an older lady at home? She heard them breaking in, siad she was going to shoot them while on the phone with 911?

With what gun?

You can own guns in the UK and could theoretically use one in self defense, but there are goofy rules about excessive force and what not. I.e. if someone is coming at you with a pocket knife and you shoot them in the face you'll go to jail for using excessive force.

Good for her. Those of you not in a castle state or state with stand your ground need to ask your reps to get it done. It is foolish to think you can't defend yourself in your own home.

A friend actually had the NC law printed up on a plaque and hangs it beside his front and back door.
§ 14‑51.1. Use of deadly physical force against an intruder.
(a) A lawful occupant within a home or other place of residence is justified in using any degree of force that the occupant reasonably believes is necessary, including deadly force, against an intruder to prevent a forcible entry into the home or residence or to terminate the intruder's unlawful entry (i) if the occupant reasonably apprehends that the intruder may kill or inflict serious bodily harm to the occupant or others in the home or residence, or (ii) if the occupant reasonably believes that the intruder intends to commit a felony in the home or residence.
(b) A lawful occupant within a home or other place of residence does not have a duty to retreat from an intruder in the circumstances described in this section.
