i'm not religious, but the birth of ol' JC has to be it. he has played a huge role in the development of modern culture.

What has he contributed to "modern culture"?

Uh....duh :disgust:

Instead of just being critical and derisive, try to actually think critically, and answer the question. What HAS Jesus Christ really contributed to modern culture? Let's see a list, with explanations for each entry.

Well . . . Family Guy's coming back.

But I'm going with the invention of the pre-packaged moist towelette, because convenience and momentary small scale hygiene are the hidden twin pillars of civilization without which we maddened monkeys would be constantly gang banging nuns, hunting each other in slavering hordes, and violently refusing to give up our seats on the subway to the elderly. It would be madness, madness I tell you, madness.

Agriculture would be the winner if you're talking about human history period, the Enlightenment if you're talking about in recorded history.

I'll go w/ the birth of Jesus.

And no, I'm not religious.

Well that event didn't even happen to 50% of anandtech users.

Because they've never been in a foxhole.

They've never been... WHAT?

Grownups would get it.

I'm ... a grownup!?

FINALLY!! FINALLY!!!!!!

:cry;

Numbers.

Where would we be without numbers?

No computers, no cars, no sky scrapers, no fast food, no alphabet. Ok that last one is streching but still.

IMO, greatest event of all time....

For millions of years mankind lived just like the animals.
Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination.
We learned to talk.

Pink Floyd - Keep Talking

Getting astronauts to the moon and getting them back. Took incredible innovation, ingenuity, and money to accomplish the feat.

But still is not, BY FAR, the most important event in human history. Of far greater importance would be the invention of agriculture, the invention of the wheel, the invention of writing...

My opinion is that this thread provides evidence that religious people tend to be rather narrow minded in their views.

WOOHOOO man you nailed it :thumbsup:
In the thousands of years we've been in existence all the religious people can think is the greatest thing that happened is some dude was born, lived for 33 years and then died. oh and he might have come back to life too. TRULY the GREATEST contribution to humanity's existence!!

I'd have to say the most important event is whatever happened that allowed us to communicate. because if we couldn't communicate we would just be stumbling around eating and shitting, and not sitting in front of our computers arguing what the most important even in history was.... hmm lemme think that one over again...

The invention of the gun. Nothing has changed the world like the ability to kill so many people so quickly.
