Honestly, I think this is a fool's argument. There are so many events which are pivotal to the world as we see it now. Without the ability to travel back in time and alter history we can't really judge which had a "greater" impact, as the whole of human existence seems to be a giant amalgamation of chaotic happenstance. If Hamurabbi hadn't written his laws would Jesus never have existed? If Lincoln hadn't been shot would World War II have occurred? These are all meaningless comparisons because each event, while certainly crucial to the formation of the modern world, has effects that are so subtle, far-reaching, and varied that they should/could only be considered as part of a whole.

I'll go w/ the birth of Jesus.

And no, I'm not religious.

Well that event didn't even happen to 50% of anandtech users.

Because they've never been in a foxhole.

Crucifixion i win.

i think most christians would suggest that the crucifixion without the the return would be sort of anti-climactic.

Yeah, really. There's nothing worse than nailing it without climax.

But still is not, BY FAR, the most important event in human history. Of far greater importance would be the invention of agriculture, the invention of the wheel, the invention of writing...

My opinion is that this thread provides evidence that religious people tend to be rather narrow minded in their views.

Well . . . Family Guy's coming back.

But I'm going with the invention of the pre-packaged moist towelette, because convenience and momentary small scale hygiene are the hidden twin pillars of civilization without which we maddened monkeys would be constantly gang banging nuns, hunting each other in slavering hordes, and violently refusing to give up our seats on the subway to the elderly. It would be madness, madness I tell you, madness.
