Meet the Parents.

everyone I know said it was Ben Stiller's best... but I found it very boring. (well, partly due to the fact that my friends told me all the highlights of the movie, like Martha Frocker, the racing scene, blhahbahla)

Both this and The Royal Tennanbaums, I have no idea why so many people rave about them.

Agree. Everyone told me how awesome it was, but it was really, really pointless. What a waste of time.

EDIT: I'll also add The Thin Red Line to the list. Boring as hell, not to mention what was up with putting all these good actors in it but only giving them 2 minutes of screen time?
I think you're just trying to piss me off. :D

My vote for most overrated would go to Something About Mary.

A unique one by me: The Maltese Falcon. UGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I fvcking HATED that movie! Bogart's character came off as the biggest prick, and the whole excerise was ultimately pointless. If it wasn't for the fact that I had seen The Big Sleep in one of my courses I would have declared Bogart the most overrated actor ever.

I have to second:
1. Pulp Fiction
2. Meet the Parents
3. ET (I never even liked that when I was a kid)
4. Blair Witch

Office Space

Just watched it again for the first time in a few years and I can't even remember why I ever thought this movie was that good.

- The Royal Tenenbaums. Watched the entire thing but wasn't really grabbed by it at all and my wife fell asleep about halfway through it. This is unfortunate because they had so many good actors in it
God, so boring, so bland, humor so dry it makes the gobi desert look refreshing.

Old School, Donnie Darko, zoolander, umm probably many more.

Titanic

In the words of one of my College English Professor "My wife came out of the movie in tears, I came out of the movie laughing... I blame my divorce on that movie."

"Pssst, the ship sinks at the end!!!! Sorry, did I spoil the movie for you?"

You probably weren't born when that movie was made, am I right? That would be the problem. By today's standards it isn't a theatrically good movie, but it was when it was made.

Regardless, philisophically it's as good as it was then. If you missed the underlying meaning of the movie you can't really comment on it.

I think some of you are forgetting that the topic is "most overrated" not "Movies I didn't like." With that in mind, I don't see how Donnie Darko was overrated. By who?

Overrated movies: the aforementioned Titanic, Jurassic Park 2 (well, overhyped anyway)

I wouldn't say they sucked, but they certainly seemed to be hyped a lot more than they were worth. Not the most overrated, not by a long shot, but a little overrated.

- The Last Samurai. This got a big "meh" from me. My wife and I started watching it and got about 30 minutes into it before we both decided we were bored. Unfortunate, because it sounded interesting.

You can't call it overrated if you've only seen the first 30 minutes... heh. It's a good movie.
