what we really need is a way for people to be able to share ideas and thoughts, from anywhere and at anytime. furthermore, the place should be organized so that you can find the type of ideas that are interesting to you without having to sort through a bunch of uninteresting idea.

this would be awesome.

A replacement for floppy disks. The zip disks are nice - and I think are up to 750mb? But I would like to see another portable disk, that is smaller than a floppy, and holds at least 20mb. Maybe the drive can even run off SATA.

Uh...USB thumb drives?

Just not the same. I'm talking about the next evolutionary step in magnetic disk media. Like I said - zip disks are nice, but they are bigger than floppies...

Btw - I think the usb port interface is the stupidest design ever. :p At least round the corners off...

I really like USB, its a great interface...but I agree with you about the ports.

Harddrives are the last mechanical piece of hardware that bottlenecks the system due to its mechanical attributes. An affordable solution to demechanize storage needs to be implemented.

downloadable movies via subscription.

Otherwise I must be very shortsighted because I can't see anything else that would make my PC experience more enjoyable. Nothing more is necessary, unless you're talking about mentally-controlling everything on it.

Got to be a replacement for the crappy old HD. You'd have a computer booting up in 10 seconds flat if your HD was quick enough. They're the #1 bottleneck by a long, long, Looooong margin.

Voice recognition: a bit poo. Imagine 20/50/100 people in an office all talking to their computers vs the sound of mouse/keyboard clicks. Plus what is it going to help with? What's quicker: dragging a file to bin/pressing delete or saying "send file porn.avi to the recycle bin.".

The only way it could help would be if your computer had a sixth level programming language-esq feature eg. "Please find all the files sent to dave in the last 18 months, remove any references to caroline and resave them into another folder. Then mail copies to the board"

Interface. We still use the same 2D interface using a mouse and keyboard that was around at the dawn of computing. We NEED better interface, though I am not sure where to go. Wireless, optical, etc... is all nice but it's still the same thing, lets get something new here!

Higher speed internet at low prices. They have the capability, it's just not economical for the communications companies to implement yet.

It is? In what way? I have an EMachines laptop with an ATI 9600 video card that is powerful enough to run Doom III. Your wish has been granted :)

A laptop still depends on power, and has a completely different enclosure.

Internet II for the common people at affordable rates! I hate paying comcast nearly 60 bucks a month for crappy 4mb service.
