I actually like some weight to my mouse. The lighter mice just don't feel right.

For me it would be the death of the floppy or something to replace it. I know we have USB drives but I've had problems booting off them in the past. I hate wasting a CD just to create a quick ghost disk or something along those lines.

That's not the USB drive's fault...

Never said it was. When I said that I ment I've encountered machines that don't allow for USB booting. Then I have to use a floppy. Only to find out the floppy drive doesn't work. So then I move to a CD. Damn public computers.....

I'd have to say, why isnt their a nice easy to use program that can go fetch and install updates/drivers for all your software/hardware at the click of a button. (For Windows)

It's called 'apt-get' under Linux :p Closest thing you get under Windows is VersionTracker. Download.com had a service like that too and it flopped.

It is? In what way? I have an EMachines laptop with an ATI 9600 video card that is powerful enough to run Doom III. Your wish has been granted :)

Slightly off topic but, why doesn't Virtual Reality come back into play? Considering the technology we have on computers now, comparing it to what we had back a few years ago when they went VR crazy but it sucked..... Everything we have now has the power to properly power the graphics and player motion capture now.

1) Solid state storage.
2) UI which utilizes 3D hardware to perform real-time shading and lighting of windows. Vista and OS X's implementations still suck compared to what can be done with good hardware.
3) Wireless everything.

Insta-Boot - no more waiting for the PC to boot. This is of course necessary for those of us who actually turn their PC's off.

I always hoped MD would be a sucessor here. it had a lot of potential but i think sony screwed up. now with MDs holding up to a gig per disk, and the relative robustness of them...would have made for awesome floppies...

me voice control. even simple things like asking it to convert x units to x units just by asking.

Uh...USB thumb drives?

Just not the same. I'm talking about the next evolutionary step in magnetic disk media. Like I said - zip disks are nice, but they are bigger than floppies...

Btw - I think the usb port interface is the stupidest design ever. :p At least round the corners off...

It would be nice if new software was programmed efficiently still, instead of breaking its back trying to use up all the extra processor cycles and memory through sloppy coding and excessive bloatware/feature overloads. Its a testament to how quickly hardware advanced that PCs are actually faster rather than slower now.
