Okay, we're getting a little off here. You guys aren't ever going to be done arguing, and from what it looks like to me, you aren't really disagreeing on anything, just finding different ways to argue the same thing.

You guys can continue...or give me advice on making a huge step in my life. I've avoided growing up. You guys might remember my thread about dating a 16 year old. Well, that's just me not growing up...but I think I do need to grow up a little bit because I've been paying the price for it. I was never raised as part of any particular religion, however I've always acknowledged god...and I've always felt that not taking the steps necessary to further my relationship with god would leave me empty...it's been on my to do list for years now (not that I'm really that old...being 21).

Of course I can resist sin, and so can you. Can I resist sin all by myself? Not always. We can pray to God and ask for strength to resist sin AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. You still haven't answered my question about why God would give us rules that we can't keep.

Why did Christ need to die on the cross? We have two major obstacles in life, spiritual death (sin) and physical death. Without Christ's suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, we wouldn't be able to repent of our sins. Without Christ's resurrection, we wouldn't be able to have life after death.

We do our best to resist sin and Christ makes up the difference.

I can tell you why God made rules that we couldn't keep. Because if we could keep them, we wouldn't need to depend on God. We wouldn't have needed Jesus to come down and save us, because we could have had some other guy who was blameless be sacraficed for our sins, or multiple people could have done that, and guess what, that makes God's plan trivialized. And we know that God isn't trivial. He is holy, which means set apart, not common, sanctified.

Jesus tells us to rely on God as a baby is reliant. A baby can't feed itself. A baby needs to have it's parents take care of it. That is how we are to be. We aren't to rely on our own understanding, and we definitely are not to rely on our own righteousness. That is the difference between a works based religion and a grace based religion (which Christianity is). We have the Helper now (Holy Spirit) which is here for us, were as before, the Holy Spirit was only given to select individuals. After Pentecost the Spirit fell and even the gentiles were speaking with utterances (Acts 2). People still fell when they had the Spirit of God in them, why do you think that Paul wrote so many letters? When you rely on your own righteousness to get into heaven, you are deceived. You are saying, "Yeah, what Christ did was cool and all, but I don't think that's enough. So I'm going to rely on myself, and have Him help me out when I need it. Thanks though, I mean, I really appreciate what you did and all. But really, it isn't that great, because I can do it on my own with a little bit of aid from you." Don't you see the deception there? It's clear! Christ died for US so we wouldn't have to be burdoned with sin. So we could give it to Him, and put all of our faith in God. Not put our faith in ourselves, then use God as a fall back plan. We're supposed to emulate Jesus. Doing this by loving God with all of our being, from this spring loving people, from that springs all of the commandments that God gave us. We will have an understanding of the law then, not a set of rules. We will begin to see the reasons why God said to do things the way He did, and we will agree with it, because we will become more and more like Him with His qualities. Why do you think in Revelation we are singing "Holy holy holy is the Lord"? Because we finally SEE how holy He is. We finally are in unison with Him, and we aren't fighting the flesh anymore. That's the purpose of the glorified form. To be alive without sin. But now, we have to battle it. And from this battle, we continually seek the holiness of God, because we start to realize how amazing He truly is.

You guys should all realize this, 2 Cor. 10:4,5. We need not to fight about this sort of stuff in the flesh. The only thing that will happen is that people will see how people of the Christian faith can't even get along and that all they do is bicker. What proof of the love of Christ is that in us? Nothing. Praise the Lord for being able to talk about Him in this type of setting, but when you abandon the love in favor of snide comments of the flesh, you've just compromised, and that opens the door to sin.

No, you haven't. You haven't explained to me why God would give us commandments if we can't keep them. The definition of sin is to disobey God's commandments. If you think we can't resist sin or temptation at all, then what would be the point of having commandments to follow?

I know you agree with me, but you're too prideful to admit your error.

Basic doctrine is NOT the same among all Christian religions. For example, we don't believe in the same Godhead as the Catholics. They believe the Godhead is one being. We believe the Godhead is comprised of three separate beings who are one in purpose.

Are you serious? You're arguing for non-Morman Christians throughout the whole thread. How is that not making it seem like you're representing the faith? I never said it should matter to you, I said it matters to me. And if you're talking about faith, and the quality of it, you should read James. It talks about faith and works.

Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. "

Your quality of faith has a lot to do about the truths discussed in this thread. I don't want an incompetant lawyer representing my case. Just as the ORIGINAL topic of this was a person talking about what they want to subscribe to as their faith, I don't want you representing the side which I'm on if you don't truly understand what you're doing.

So, if you're here arguing about what is right and wrong about the simple doctrines, you should realize that you are representing the Christian faith, and your faith is demonstrated by how you act. If how you act demonstrates your faith, what do you do when you're inactive? What do you do when you aren't on a missions trip? What do you do when you're alone, at home. Do you sit there and drink beer and watch pr0n? Or do you spend time with the Lord? I'm not throwing accusation, I'm asking a legit question. Because the answer to that is really important for what you intend to do with the rest of your eternity.

Often times here on AT you have atheists telling other atheists that they're wrong about what they think about the Bible because even THEY know something about what the Bible says. They are hardly representing the faith. I'm not trying to convert anyone. I hardly speak as the voice of non-mormon christianity. If you think so, you need your head examined.

Mormons? Total crap religion. Guy I worked with couldn't pay his 10% fee or whatever it is they want all the time so he called up the church elder and told him he wouldn't make his payment. They told him he had to. He told them he couldn't pay both his mortgage and his fee. They told him he had to.

He paid his mortgage. They excommunicated him. All his friends were Mormon and they excommunicated him for paying his mortgage.

Total crock of a religion. He had to pretty much start over since he lost his friends and his religion.

When I was in H.S. a girlfriend's best friend was Mormon. I wasn't allowed in their house. Very rude. I had to stay outside since I was a guy. I was treated like some kind of dog that would rape her if I stepped into their home. Very very weird people.

I've met many nice Mormons but these two examples just piss me off.

Answering the question matters because then I will know whether or not to pray for you. I will know whether or not you accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior or if you reject Him. In fact, even if you DO accept Him, I will still pray for you. So I guess it really doesn't matter either way.
