The thing that really creeps me out about Mormons, is that they baptise people after their deaths, like Anne Frank.

It's like "Oh we're nice, friendly, smiley people... but we will wait till you die and steal your soul"
I can honestly say that I really don't care too much about that. 🙂
I don't care too much about what happens to me after I die.
I guess I might not like it if my corpse would be paraded through streets or something, in some undignified pose. It could possibly reflect poorly on any descendants or friends of mine. :hmm:

But hey, I don't care if they'd do some funky baptism ceremony for me right now. Since dead people can be baptized, it seems quite evident that the person being baptized doesn't need to actively participate in the ceremony in any manner whatsoever.

this is probably another bad idea on my part, but the tone of this thread isn't as flaming as normal so i'll risk it. most of you may not get this, but it is relevant/funny

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I care if they were to do that for me either. It just seems a tad creepy, because if you believe what they believe, then what they are effectively doing is they are committing someones soul into being a mormon without their consent.

They got billboards up all over town now trying to con people into thinking they're something other than a cult of lunatics.

In all honesty, the Catholics fit the "cult of lunatics" description pretty well too...

Read up on some of the things the Catholics have done in the name of God over the centuries...

(however, IMO, that doesn't reduce the level of the Mormon "Cult of Lunatics," lunacy one little bit...they're really out there...somewhere in space)

Catholics were crazy long before people had any business being sane. A cult that gets run out of town and has to settle in the god forsaken wasteland of Utah doesn't get that same consideration.

The real reason you convert to Mormonism is because you get to bang more then one woman. The ones I seen that do this seem to upgrade to a hotter new wife.

Look at this guy, the one in the middle is his newest wife. She is no doubt the hottest one of the bunch. So when he gets tired of his new wife he will no doubt get a new hotter wife. I can see why guys like this religion but I would never want to deal with that many woman like he does. That one in the red is a winier and complains that she never gets enough affection.

I do get a kick out of all the athiest constantly bashing on anyone that has a religion. It is pretty funny. It seems like the athiests on this board go out of their way to put down religious people, and usually the religious people are just trying to stick up for themselves. Athiests are so hip!

I go out of my way to insult religions.

I made a point of saying that I like most of the Mormons that I've met.

Any time you see something wrong you comment on it don't you? Atheist see something wrong with religion, so they comment on it.

And there have been plenty of threads on the topic. Religious people don't start threads on some of the dumb things athiests base their non-belief on.

There was a thread like a month ago with a religious person asking atheists questions, just like this thread.

So 1? In the last month I have seen a few talking about religious people. I just think it's comical. Almost as sad as penis hooders calling out the ones that have been circumcised.

Atheists obviously have more inquisitive minds and need to ask more questions.

Mormonism is the scientology of the 1800's, dreamed up by a guy who wrote/told fiction. Rather like L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of scientology, wouldn't you say?

I mean, seriously, phrases like "Starbase Kolob", and "Endless celestial sex with thousands of goddess wives." says it all.

You should change your name to Capt Fucktard cuz you have no clue what your talking about.

While I am not Mormon, I find it weird that people think it's any more difficult to believe than any other religion. I know there is some evidence to dispute some things in Mormonism (ex. Book of Abraham, fossil and genealogical records in North America), but plenty of other religions have some evidence against them as well. I really think the only reason people are more accepting of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, etc. is because they are 1500+ years separated from the foundations of those religions. Mormonism is less than 200 years old. Bahai is even younger.

The reason is because those religions used fear and force to convert a lot of people.. and they could get away with that.. as they created their own rules/laws.

More or less this. Is the "magic underwear" really all that different than the tallit or tefilin? Is claiming that Native Americans come from Israel and weirder than the Holy Trinity or transubstantiation?
