I'd never change my last name. I'd be cool with my wife keeping hers though.

What do you do with the kids?
I don't want my kids to have a dashed last name (Wife-Husband). What are your kid's kids going to be named? (Wife1-Husband1-Wife2-Husband2)?

In the province of Quebec women are legally forbidden from changing their surname to that of their husband. Even if she tried to do it years later through a legal name change, it would be blocked. She could change it to anything else, just not her husband's name.
Why, and what is the point of this law?

Talked with the girl about this. I was all excited as we both play golf - "Just think honey! You're initials will be PAR"
Then she said "Umm, i'd have my last name as my maiden name so I lose my middle you dummy"

My cousin took his wife's surname when they married. They're both in their early 30s and fairly progressive.
Part of the rationale is that she has built up a lot of experience and name recognition in the film industry, and she didn't want to compromise that by changing her name.
I'm not sure why he couldn't have kept his surname as well, but in any event, it hasn't impacted his career success. They're both happy, so I'm happy for them.
If and when I get married, I'm pretty sure I'll keep my surname and insist that my wife keep hers also.

The idea is to "promote equality". It's stupid. The government thinks that by preventing women from taking their husband's name that they are liberating them from a tradition, when in reality all they are doing is taking away a freedom of choice.
It's absolutely moronic, but, well... it's Quebec.
(I really do like Quebec, it's just they have some dumbasses there who fuck things up for everyone).

I could see this happening if the guy had a bad last name to begin with or if the wife's last name gave him an awesome new name.
