And don't give me that bullshit about exercising one's freedoms, there still has to be a REASON he decided to bring a rifle to the rally. I have the freedom to carry a trolley jack around with me whenever the hell I want, but I generally don't take mine out unless I need to lift something.

But if you took one out for reasons that nobody else could understand, what would you want to have happen? Imprisonment? Fine?

No one has advocated that here, what are you talking about?

No since they do not get remotely close to the president. Not to say there probably is a sniper's gun trained on the guy's head. But where ever the president is becomes Federal property so it trumps Arizon'a state law concerning open carry.

why would the ss be worried? the protest/support meet & greet was not near the president nor the road they traveled on. not like the pres even viewed the people w/ the guns either or the people out w/ their signs except on the video clips.

fwiw, all of you that live in a state that doesn't allow open carry, this is really no big deal to those of us that have lived our entire life around guns and in a state that allows open carry and the police know how the laws actually work. the police stated they didn't have a problem w/ it, the mayor of phx stated he didn't have a problem w/ it, the pres was never in any direct harm nor were the people around the people w/ the firearms exposed. this is not the first time i have seen a rifle slung over somebody while out nor will it be the last. there was no threat.

Because he wanted to make news with the fact that what he is doing is NOT illegal. Did you watch the video, he had a cogent explanation of why he's doing it.

Well what were you getting at then? You said there has to be a reason for him to do it. What does his reason matter if it is legal? If he does something illegal, we have laws to take care of that.

If you want to carry a trolley jack around town, I am not going to stop and question you.

Again, open carry is safer in that perspective than concealed carry, since you can see what the guy is doing and where his guns are.

Of course not, but the looney lefts agenda isn't safety, they don't like guns, or people having the right to own guns, much less carry them.

Yet you trust soccer moms in 6000 pound weapons yapping on their cell-phones, turning around beating the kids and eating to not kill you out on the road?

You trust Joe-blow to not drive home from the bar with a .25 BAC and wipe out your family?

You trust the police to show up in time to protect you if someone wants to do harm to yourself or your family?

Im sorry you dont trust people to exercise their rights. Luckily, it really doesnt matter.

fixed it for you OCguy 😉

You never know when a bear or wildcat might leap out of the underbrush. There might be both simultaneously which is why you might need an automatic weapon.

Do you pee your pants when you see a gun or something?

well, according to DHS and that little memo they sent out a couple of months ago, i am sure the pres was in a much more volatile and life threatening situation meeting w/ all those vets....

Right Wing hate in America isn't a laughing matter:

Just seeing the printed word starts a panic attack.

Not really. I think there's as much validity in taking someone's gun as there is in taking someone's car. I just thoroughly enjoy annoying repuggies. Though, I do start to worry when I see so many seemingly intelligent people doing stupid things and then other seemingly intelligent people attempt to defend these actions with specious arguments.

i would counter that the hate comes from both sides and that hate in america is not a laughing matter.

I think this is just another step to total failure of what currently makes up the republican party. I can't think of a better way to disenchant intellectuals and moderates than to send IDIOTS to yell talking points during a public policy discourse

Good.

are you kidding me? As soon as that guy makes any threatening moves towards the President, he's gonna have 5 bullets in his heart.

Again, he didn't and no responsible gun owner would do such a thing. Just exercising their right. No responsible gun owner would even raise the weapon unless they absolutely had to in response to harm. And by a HUGE margin those that choose to open carry are responsible gun owners.

As I said in the OP - nothing illegal happening here. If he raised his weapon, then fine - kill him either by SS/LEO or by another carrying, that's a deadly threat.

that raises an interesting question, in open carry states when is it legal to shoot someone who is carrying a weapon? seriously. do you have to wait til they point it at you ? seems kinda late..

when you feel that your life or another's life is being threatened - so i am sure every case would be different. if they are just carrying it, there is no threat - people need to understand this.

The second amendment is very cute, but as many have said in this thread, bringing a rifle to a presidential town-hall is a bit douchey. The guy is "making a point," but his actions are a bit like me exercising my right to shit myself in public.

When was that amendment added? 😕

How can you be this obtuse? Actually, I don't believe that you actually are... I think you're just trying to be a jackass because it's about the second amendment and you feel like you need to defend it at all costs.

What the guy did was legal. What he did was also extremely stupid. These things are not mutually exclusive, and any person who thinks taking a gun to a presidential event, when almost 1 in 10 presidents the US has ever had has been shot to death is extremely fucking stupid.

I am not aware of any state that its legal to shoot someone simply for having a holstered weapon on them.

that doesn't answer my question..which is when is it legal, not when is it illegal. in the case of a rifle or shotgun, which aren't holstered, what constitutes a threat ?

Tom: to answer your question " in open carry states when is it legal to shoot someone who is carrying a weapon?"....it is the same as a concealed state.
