More bad Amazon stuff

So, they say there's a prime discount at Whole Foods, and you can order home delivery.

After you do all your shopping and try to check out, you are first informed that a mobile phone number is *required*. It says it's for contacting you about substitutions if needed.

If you check 'no substitutions', it's still required. Then, the small print says, you agree that the mobile number can be used to send you marketing messages. No option to opt-out, except having to contact them.

No mobile number? No home delivery.

Contact them to criticize the policy, you get transferred to the 'leadership team', who tell you they'll discuss the issue. How can you get an update with the result of the discussion? They tell you, in broken English, that as customer service they'd like to update you, but it is Amazon policy not to give any updates.

The person then tells you that the mobile number is required for security purposed.

You tell them that makes no sense. You're already logged in to your Amazon account; that provides the security. You're shipping items to your home address on file. You could simply type in a phony mobile number; his claim makes no sense. They'll discuss it. Ya.

You're supposed to get a prime discount in the store, also. That, also requires a mobile number. No other option.

I wonder if there's an option to opt-out in the website settings somewhere.

Or just do what I do & use a burner phone number for all your transactions. Google Voice is free!

Or...just shop at Albertsons, Safeway, Wal-Mart, Kroger...or <inset grocery store name> and be done with it.
What's next...Craig gonna whine about some company refusing to let him order withou an email address...or worse, not being able to order on line because he has no internet, no computer/mobile device...or ????

I'm pretty sure posting on these forums is more invasive of your privacy than giving your mobile number to some company that already has it.

My cellphone number had been under attack by robocalls since the pandemic started. I get 2-3 calls every day or two. Usually around 12-2pm or 4-7pm.

If I get a call from a company I do business with and they leave a voicemail, I save the contact in my phone. If my phone rings and doesn't have a contact record, I never answer it.

It does take at least 60 seconds to install a free phone app that'll give you a "phone number" ideal for this sort of thing ... I can see where that would be to much effort.

🙄 😉

Seriously there are so many ways around giving out any phone number/email/etc that you actually use or that's even directly associated with you that it barely rates a mention nevermind a rant.

Not according to them.

Thanks for the suggestion, but right now I prefer the 'screw them, I'm not giving them my money with their bad service, I'll get my food elsewhere' alternative.

From the outside, it seems like you have a lot of issues with multiple companies/websites.

Must be the many companies I listed in this thread. To list them all, this will take a lot of time, there's Amazon... Maybe I've posted a complaint about another company at some point. Maybe you have no point, and should not be in my thread.

To post in my thread, your mobile number is required. Post it.

By doing so, you consent to unlimited marketing or harassment calls. If you don't like it, say so, and I'll cut and paste your post.

You are not the grand decider of who can and cannot post in your threads.

There are other options to Whole Foods but certainly not WalMart for example. They simply don't have the comparable products, especially if you do a lot of organic stuff.

It's... almost like there's some big gov't database... let's say (theoretically) in Utah, that's tracking your every move, and every purchase, to build a complete dossier on every American Citizen. Nah, that couldn't be it, that's just a "conspiracy theory"...

Edit: That couldn't be why they want to (and are apparently going to) "get rid of cash", could it?

I get pestered by various sites to give my phone#. I always click the [Later] button, with "later" being defined as "When hell freezes over". If it was mandated, I just wouldn't use that service.

But I can have an opinion, and explain why you are unworthy.

I've been on here a long time, and I have a pretty decent memory.

No, you didn't.

Now, you took some time and showed you are just talking out of your...

And, on top of that, you are coming close to stalking, kind of a weird almost obsessive noting of something tiny and trying to necro it into some larger attack you have.

Oh my gosh, months ago, I found a game forum moderator who acted badly, out of my three thousand games on Steam. I share the story here, and here you are here months later to throw it in my face as if it's something I did wrong you are here to attack me for. You acting quite badly here, and you probably don't even get it.

We're on the same page. They don't have a 'later' option here; to place an order, which is supposed to be something included with the Prime you pay for, you have to give them a mobile number and that has to give them the right to use it for marketing, until you contact them again, and they lie to you about the issue if you ask.

Well, for decades there have been suspicions about moves toward all currency being online/digital/virtual (you'd think you'd like that, virtual Larry), allowing for complete tracking, and making a person unable to have any transactions if a flip is switched; and for implanting identifying and tracking chips into every person.

But that's another topic. This is just about one company behaving badly, with intrusiveness and dishonesty, that adds to previous bad behavior.
