Who don't rely on as big a percentage of the Federal Government Teet as many of the Red States so they have to have these taxes to pay for the services they have.
This is a fact, but why is it accepted?
Who knows but it's funny that some of these Red Staters are bitching about some of these Blue States who need a Bailout but without the Federal Handout to their own states they'd be a in a much worse economic predicament. For instance CA pays a huge amount in Federal Taxes but only receives a fraction back in what they pay out where as some of these Podunk Southern Red States pay a paltry amount and receives more back than they pay out.

Well, in reality the only people paying taxes in CA are the Republicans anyway.. the pot smoking hippie liberals don't pay taxes. I expect a full apology from you.

You must be smoking something a lot stronger than pot if that is your "reality."

Seems like the Blue Staters are running the show now at the federal level, so they ought to do something about that. Otherwise, quit whining. Allowing yourself to repeatedly get conned is no one's fault but one's own.

Why is this concept soooo hard to grasp? Blue state/Red state, whatever. The problem isn't how much money they are brining in, the problem is the spending. In good years there should be a big surplus, so you can buffer the bad years without really affecting services negatively. Instead, in good years they waste just a little more than they bring in, so in bad years they face huuuuuge deficits.

The answer is not in revenue, it is in spending. This is true at the federal and state/local levels.

You can't decouple taxes from spending. Every time you do, you are going to remove the main incentive to keep spending low and have huge deficits. What we have in CA is a system where it's very easy for people to increase spending either indirectly through representatives or directly through initiatives, but very difficult for government to raise taxes to pay for all this spending. That breaks the negative feedback to voter, and voter can vote for more and more spending without fear of having to pay for it. That happened on federal level and on state level too. What is needed is a balanced budget amendment that requires every bill or proposition to pay for itself either through spending cuts or revenue increases.
