ummm we do. my kids have had required PE in elementary, jr and high school. and they even get graded for the class. HOLY SHIT!!

are you saying that PE is not required where you live or are you just being an ass and spouting out shit that you know nothing about.

lots of schools have canceled PE classes. Have you been living under a rock?

I am thinking he means that PE is required and graded, but even then, that doesn't necessarily mean the kids are working while in class. I can remember a few times we did activities in PE that weren't physical at all, probably more often than not!

Why do you guys keep saying *Georgia* Obesity Action Council? The ads are Georgian, not the OAC condemning them (AFAIK).

My local middle school just rebuilt its track and encompassed field. Really nice. I especially enjoy watching the gym-clothed youngsters walking around it. The only time that space gets any real action is when our local Hispanic residents get together and use it to play soccer. Sigh...

Good! Apparently talking calmly and normally about obesity has done us jack shit, so maybe ridicule will get us somewhere. I'll take it even further saying that shows like "The Biggest Loser" and "Mike and Molly" have only given fat people the mentality that "oh, I'll be skinny in no time, it's not a big deal" and "I too can be famous for being ridiculously overweight".

Damn I hate fat people.

In our district you can opt out of phys ed classes. Some students get medical waivers and are excused for a variety of reasons. Oh, exercise and proper nutrition can help with your anger management issues. 🙂

"certain polypeptides have been named exorphins, since they exert morphine-like activity on the brain. While you may not be "high," many people experience a subtle reward, a low-grade pleasure or euphoria."

Food is a hell of a drug. Like any addiction it is doubtless very tough to beat. And it would explain the high recidivism rate. As a parent, I can either be my child's pusher or nutritionist, I chose the later.

FFS food is not a "drug". That said, I concur that this is largely on the parents, but like many other issues it's rare that they choose to break a given cycle.

If mom and dad are fat, kids are probably going to be fat.

If mom and dad didn't finish HS, kids are probably not going to finish HS.

Frankly, southern food is some tasty, fatty shit. Back when everyone was working in the fields I guess it didn't matter as much. Nowadays their kids play video games as much as any other, and it shows.

Seriously, I didn't truly appreciate this until my mom died (she's from rural NC) and I took over making the homemade Christmas deserts from her recipes. You don't realize how much sugar and fat is in this stuff until you read the recipe, and put the 2 cups of white sugar into the pot. I used to think diabetes naturally ran in that side of my family, now that I've looked at some of their cookbooks I'm thinking it might be more environmental. 😛

do you live in Georgia?

So let's get this straight: you accuse someone of spouting shit because it's inconceivable to you that many public schools don't offer physical education classes. Then, when you're proven not only be wrong, but also a pompous douchebag, you dismiss it all, saying you don't give a shit because your kids have PE classes.

Your attitude is just one of many reasons why this country has problems. Of course you should give a shit that other schools have cut PE classes and have half-assed academic standards. OF COURSE you should care about the people not only in your immediate family, but also those in your county, in your state, in your country, in the world. Rather than thinking, oh, not my problem, I'm doing just fine, you SHOULD want things to change for the better, regardless of whether it directly affects you.

And then of course, since Georgia schools obviously don't have PE classes, and therefore I must have attended or live near one of those schools.

Your kids might have PE classes, but they obviously won't be learning anything about social responsibility.

on a related note, I'm always scared shitless every time watching those cooking shows on Foods network and see a chef nonchalantly drops a full stick of butter in a small frying pan to cook a two-person meal.

Come on maaan! Meme at play. But certain foods can produce a low level drug like effect as the quote mentioned.
