Good ad campaign, I think.

An in-your-face ad campaign aimed at ending Georgia's childhood obesity epidemic is hitting some nerves. Some of the controversial ads are almost hard to watch, and people are reacting strongly.

The ads are part of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta's "Strong4Life" campaign. They feature children and family members speaking frankly about being fat.

The messages have been condemned by the Obesity Action Coalition, which wrote a strongly worded statement decrying the campaign for ideas that “greatly promote the negative stigma, weight bias and bullying often associated with obesity and childhood obesity.”

Obesity Action Coalition, you're all idiots. There should be extreme negative stigma and weight bias towards a 'medical issue' that's 99.99% preventable and treatable.

Edit - You can watch the ads yourself here.

This is a fabulous ad campaign. Tell the people what they don't want to hear. Get them motivated to clean up their lifestyle and eating habits.

Fatties need to quit being so sensitive.

Parents need to teach their kids about responsible eating. There is nothing wrong with Cheetos or McD once in while.. but not every day.

Agreed.

I see how they reached the conclusion that this campaign would even be necessary: when so many people either don't recognize the problem or turn a blind eye, it takes a powerful wake-up call to get people moving in the right direction.

Life isn't about being babied, having your hand held, and being told your special and perfect throughout your entire life. Life's a cruel bitch, and we need to do more to make sure children actually DO experience the realities of said world.
So if that means they get a little upset when they are told the truth, so be it.
A lot of children actually hate being fed false information like that. Some just don't want the constant praise and high-fives if they recognize they are sub-standard.
Some people quit trying to get better once they are given praise for performance - so if you make them feel all warm and special when they actually suck, they might just be pathetic their whole life! Is that what we want of our children? A weak and coddled society?
oh wait, that's what society has created in today's generation. shit.

What really bothers me is that no one teaches this stuff to anyone. I remember being in grade school and middle school and never really learned PROPER nutrition. Children need to be taught at an early age that diet and exercise are important for your well being. You can't just start teaching this stuff to middle schoolers, they won't listen. They don't listen to anyone.

Children, however, are eager to learn and live.

Up until about a year and a half ago, I didn't really take nutrition or exercise very seriously. I got to the point where I was tired of being a weak, tall, skinny-but-fat guy. I learned a ton just by reading the H&F form here, 4chan.org/fit, and the bodybuilding forums. If we can just teach that same knowledge to kids at a young age, then they would have a lower chance of becoming overweight or obese.

I like this ad campaign. Fucking fatties, eatin all our food, drinkin all our drank, using all our material for clothing, making the pool seem a lot more shallow when they get out (with their t-shirt still on), depleting all of our insulin shots, stealing all of the ketchup, taking up all the seats, making the car ride to low, eating all the candy bars and funnel cakes, stretching out all the socks with their fat ankles, etc.

Damnit, the fatties are taking all of our resources.

Imagine a country where the schools have physical education classes where students are required to exercise. Aww, forget it! That would discriminate against the weight challenged kids.

Excellent ad campaign.

Someone needs to send the Georgia Obesity Action coalition a palette of donuts so they will shut their fat faces.

Wonder what the office of Georgia Obesity Action looks like... 😵 Do I even want to know...nope.

found it

Just an FYI, calling obese people "fucking fatties" and saying they should all be killed isn't a very good way to get through to anyone. I agree that it's a personal problem most of the time and I don't like hearing excuses either, but jesus, you guys are just as bad as the people who try to defend obesity.

The government should enact a Fat tax. Create a division in the IRS to enforce the Fat Tax, once every 4 years everyone has to visit a local IRS Fat tax office and get weighed in. If you exceed healthy weights, you pay a 4% Annual Fat tax in addition to your regular taxes.

And the IRS Fat police will randomly weigh people on the street and issue citations if you gained weight compared to the last reading.

well, I assume people are being facetious about that...

Having been on ATOT for a while, I don't doubt that many of the people here truly believe what they are saying.

I'm not saying fat people should be coddled or that this is a bad campaign because it hurts feelings, but wow. The reactions you get whenever someone posts about obesity here are completely over the top.

Fat people are one of the few people I DO NOT show caring and understanding for.

Seriously, control your eating.

I get caught up as well. I eat too much, I put on a few pounds,.. and I start dieting. Or, I don't exercise as I should.

Probably wouldn't be so over the top if there weren't so many fucking fatties running around gobbling up all of our food rations and airline seats!!!

And the pools! Think of the kids! In the pool enjoying life, then the fatty gets out and the 3 foot pool becomes a 1 foot pool you can't do shit in.

ummm we do. my kids have had required PE in elementary, jr and high school. and they even get graded for the class. HOLY SHIT!!

are you saying that PE is not required where you live or are you just being an ass and spouting out shit that you know nothing about.

What we really need is a TV show about fat people losing weight (or not), the highlight of which is them standing on the scale crying. Oh wait, there is one...

If you haven't seen Ricky Gervais' bit about fatties on his latest stand-up special, do. It gets right to the heart of of the issue.
