I can't make fun of her for wishing this situation had ended differently. She actually seems like a nice enough lady and she's been through a terrible personal tragedy. That being said, her son 100% created the situation that led to his death (by, himself, pointing a loaded gun at a gas station clerk), and I would never second-guess the man who killed him (potentially saving the innocent clerk's life in the process).

Well, I might argue the guy should go to jail, but only for the reason that he's a convicted felon who had a gun....though the article doesn't say when he was last convicted and I don't know for sure if it was illegal for him to own said gun.

Based on what I read, it's mostly a mother that's upset she lost her son. This is not a national story, there are no charges pending against the shooter. Why did this need to be posted?

I think he is serious. Convicts are stripped of a lot of rights, despite serving their debt to society. Ask any felon how well his job prospects are for a crime he committed 20 years ago.

Not all felons are kept from legally owning guns. Non violent offenses like writing a bad check over $500 is a felony, but will not keep you from owning a gun. At least not in every state.
