I used the STEP Mod.

It took several hours to download and install everything. Then I played the game for a couple days without realizing I had to enable to mods in the mod manager. Whoops.

Honestly the time I sunk into installing the mods is the only reason I'm still playing. I find the game to be insufferably boring and aimless. I pre-ordered the game, and tried to play it on 3 separate occasions but gave up due to boredom. I'm just now at 18 total hours, like I said, due to some bad sunk cost logic from the mod installation. I try to force myself to play an hour a day or so. I'm a pure mage, and I get wrecked by pretty much everything all the time.

Using a mod manager and boss? TESVedit? Wearable lanterns a good mod to have (frees your hands in dark places). On this forum ,there have been quite a few extensive posts on this subject as well.

right now am using nexus mod manager. unsure if i should use mod manager or wyre bash. step does not support nexus mod manager. which one should i use?

took a look at step earlier. not sure how to install it. downloaded the wrong file with enb before so i do not want to do that again.

which enb should i use

I have no idea how modding or Skyrim works, and I followed STEP step-by-step and had no issues with mod organizer.

the mod organizer instructions seem to be about the mod organizer not step. i read about some of the mods used before. where do you actually download the mod files?

From Nexus. It takes forever. The STEP forum harshly polices people that suggest the whole thing be packaged into a torrent, but they're out there. I'd look into doing it that way, because it literally takes about 4 hours to do all the STEP steps.

Not too much has changed over the last decade. I've only been playing Skyrim since upgrading my PC just weeks ago, but it's basically just like it was 10+ years ago, only prettier.

There's basically data files, and SKSE stuff. SKSE is an extender, that allows the scripting engine to do more stuff, but has to load the main exe in itself to do it. It's the sort of thing cheats are done with in multiplayer games. It has to be in your main folder, and plugins for SKSE need to be right where they're expected, which is where Mod Organizer can falter, some.

Under Data is where all the rest lives. The ESMs (Elder Scrolls Masters) and ESPs (Elder Scrolls Plugins) have the core game content in them. The BSAs are archives (Bethesda ??? Archive, I'm pretty sure) with just media files. They are loaded in order, such that a later file overrides an earlier file. Loose files in the data folder, outside of ESMs, ESPs, and BSAs, override files in ESPs/ESMs/BSAs. For games settings changes, Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini override ESMs/ESPs, too.

Mods that change the same world space, or some of the same items, but not all, or that make incorrect references to files that need to be loaded earlier (usually not a problem with mods still supported, but TES5Edit took awhile, for whatever reason) can be incompatible with another, and may either need to have their order changed, be cleaned, have patches for compatibility made, or only have one loaded.

--

I'm using Character Creation Overhaul, SkyRe, Realistic Needs and Diseases, Frostfall, Fire and Ice Overhaul, Ars Metallica, No auto-aim, SkyTEST, Civil War Overhaul, Immersive Creatures, Immersive Weapons (the latest Immersive Armor isn't SkyRe compatible yet), Hunterborn, Locational Damage, The Dance of Death, and The Choice is Yours, as my main gameplay adjusting mods, with skill XP lowered all-around via the uncapper's ini, because I was leveling way too fast last time. I plan to try some more that I haven't DLed, but the Nexus keeps being down when I'm not at work (do it the other time, please). This setup, however, requires several sets of patches, including two sets of patches that need to be re-applied for any changes in mods but meshes, textures, or sounds (reproccer and asis). But, it keeps the level scaling, keeps small animals dangerous, and allows you to be one-hit-killed if you're not careful...or too tired to effectively fight due to lack of food, water, or sleep, and/or too much time in the cold.

--

Graphically, I'm mainly using CoT, with their ENB, with bloom disabled and vsync enabled, and the Book of Silence. I can't handle too much else w/ 1GB VRAM.

--

Does the double cursor tweak itself keep vsync? OnTweak, which supercedes it, disabled vsync for me.

too cinamatic for me. looks like it has good color but it loses too much constrast quality. i like to balance them. project enb is fairly good. the more realistic the better.

sharpshooter extreme enb looks like the project enb with climates of tamriel but not as good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EbZgBXxBd8

hard to know from just a couple of locations though.

right now after watch some more videos should i go with sharpshooter project enb or real like enb

used skse for some time now. did not know until after some time using it that you need to run skse and not the main exe file.

have generally put the more important mods first in the load order if i can. and put the official files first before everything else if i can. try to keep files of the same mod together also. but it seems that some mods want to be loaded after other mods. this load order is still very confusing to me. the random files come last. should i disable the official hd resolution pack if i use hd skyrim and other mods?

I'm using Character Creation Overhaul, SkyRe, Realistic Needs and Diseases, Frostfall, Fire and Ice Overhaul, Ars Metallica, No auto-aim, SkyTEST, Civil War Overhaul, Immersive Creatures, Immersive Weapons (the latest Immersive Armor isn't SkyRe compatible yet), Hunterborn, Locational Damage, The Dance of Death, and The Choice is Yours, as my main gameplay adjusting mods, with skill XP lowered all-around via the uncapper's ini, because I was leveling way too fast last time. how is frostfall? realistic needs and diseases and locational damage sound interesting. been thinking about civil war overhaul and character creation overhaul. where is there auto aim in skyrim? any of those you would recommend?

nexus just crashed not too long ago. found out like the very 20 seconds or so that it happened. messed up me looking through the step mods.

I'm mainly using CoT, with their ENB

looks like one of the top enb mod combinations

do you know if i can use enb .245 with project enb?

not sure. just found the mod right when i put up that post.

No, the others will override the standard HD pack.

ESPs loaded later override files loaded earlier, and loose files override all of those.

how is frostfall?
You have to care about clothes and a small amount of camping gear (not much, really, but you do have to craft it yourself). Fires become important. Swimming in fur armor, for example, will not be a good thing, because you'll be soaked in cold fur, while leather armor and a linen cloak will let you dry off and warm up quicker; but fur will protect you from exposure when not wet, too. Combined with RND, any exploration has far more risk than just enemies, and negative effects of hunger, thirst, or exposure also affect your combat stats.

where is there auto aim in skyrim?

Like the modding issues, none of this is new to Skyrim. If you've played Oblivion, FO3, or FNV, you'd already be aware of it--100x so if you tried playing a sniper in FO3 or FNV. OTOH, there's also the Proper Aiming mod, which tweaks auto-aim to be more aggressive, to get the opposite effect of what all is being talked about above.

what enb should i use? what version is combatable with project enb?

read about frostfall before. looks interesting and i even downloaded it on my old computer. was wondering if you like it and the other mods. is there any reason for armor and character texture packs?

is this skill based?

what enb should i use? what version is combatable with project enb?
I dunno. I tried some and settled on CoT's with minor changes (bloom off, vsync on), for a moodier vanilla-like game. But, I don't have a ton of GPU power or VRAM to spare, right now, either.

was wondering if you like it and the other mods.
Well, yeah, hence using them. Frostfall, RND, and Hunterborn together make for a more immersive game, with added resource management concerns, but not so complex as to be frustrating (that's what Dwarf Fortress is for 🙂), and make hunting worthwhile for more than a couple special craft items. Throw in SkyTEST animals and predators, and immersive creatures, and the land must be carefully tread upon, for now (but, thanks to SkyRe, I have a few more difficulty levels left to raise it up to, if I need them later on, where vanilla quickly got too easy for all but boss fights at max).

is there any reason for armor and character texture packs?
They look better. I can't handle too much with my 1GB VRAM, but I've got Cabel(sp)'s packs, super lore friendly hair, and a couple others. SMIM seems to be too much, even w/o fancy retextures, FI. After redoing my game w/o SMIM, FI, Open Cities is working fine, though there is no known incompatibility between them.

is this skill based?
I'm not 100%sure. It has been in the past, in so far as a low skill could allow aiming to be approximate, but I'm not sure how that's been implemented, if at all, in Skyrim. It kind of seems like it hasn't been, due to magnetism (arrows and bolts will go straight sideways mid-flight into targets they were almost hitting), and I seem to be quite accurate (including barely missing) with <40 skill and a disabled aimbot.

Turning auto-aim off in FO3 and FNV, with the right settings, made the games viable to play from a distance, as auto-aim would often send a bullet into cover, when pointing out of cover0; or the target would be past the zero point (projectiles shoot from the weapon, so have to have their directions adjusted to go towards the crosshair, instead of straight out), and it would correct too much, or just act randomly (from a player PoV). With the limited usable distance in Skyrim, due much to arrows and bolts falling, the main issue is for when the auto-aim decides a projectile needs to go somewhere you weren't pointing, and you really wanted it to go right where you were pointing. So, it's very much a matter of taste and play style, in Skyrim.

There are so many mods on Nexus for TES games you can get "lost in the weeds" and overthink everything.IMO the easiest way to mod is with Nexus Mod manager, though some will argue NMM is not the best. However, I have used it and it makes modding very easy. I also use Boss for putting mods in the correct order. If you install a mod you don't like, it is pretty easy to uninstall it in NMM. Gopher's tutorials on modding, NMM, Boss, TesVedit are very useful and easy to follow. Also Stringjam, a forum member, has put together a very nice set of mods using RCRN which is less a resource hog than some other ENB's.

Overhauls and Lighting:
Project Reality - Climates of Tamriel - Weather - Lighting - Audio
Project Reality - Climates of Tamriel - V3
Note: Install Climates of Tamriel BEFORE Installing RCRN.

looks like cot and project enb are good. but do you know if i can use enb version .245 with project enb

anything that makes wolves more real. which would be less aggresive.

figured they might. just want to know how many texture packs i have to download. does 2k hd cover these?

might do this. need the shot distance more anyways.

looks interesting. i will have to read up on some of those mods that i do not have already. do not want to have to download a whole bunch more.

any good texture recommendations to use besides the following

2k hd
enhanced terrain
water

think i downloaded enhanced lights and fx before. will probably do it again.

As far as ENB goes, I have the version from the ENB site that was the latest as of sometime a week ago, whatever version it was.

anything that makes wolves more real. which would be less aggresive.
I'm not sure that exists, unless someone has gone to great lengths w/ the AIs. Most NPCs that can attack the player are either hostile or not, and non-hostile faction NPCs need to be attacked before they attack you. I don't think there's any kind of fear or territorial behavior implemented.

figured they might. just want to know how many texture packs i have to download. does 2k hd cover these?
No idea. If you're going for replacers all over, though, make sure whatever Vurt has been up to is included, in the flora parts. I'm avoiding it now on account of VRAM, but Vurt's stuff for the prior games has been top notch--like it's not even a mod--and I know there's some Vurt's flora changes of some kind around for Skyrim.

might do this. need the shot distance more anyways.
For shot distance, get Arrows and Bolts Tweaks, use the added speed, and then apply the relevant INI lines for arrows and bolts, adjusting from there as needed. Then, get at least proper aiming, if keeping the aimbot, and set the nav mesh distance (Google it--basically, the game allows you to see creatures farther out than it auto-aims or checks for collisions, so your projectile can pass right through them).

have both .245 and .221. project enb is made for .221 enb.

as of a week or two ago enb .245 was the latest version. do you have any crashes?

should i get rid of my last two mods on the steam workshop? lighting can be done with mods from the nexus. the optic nature pack might also be. do you know of anything that would replace it?

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=73889388

should i just download some of the seperate mods from the nexus. more downloads but i know some of them are on the nexus.

nav mesh distance

the cell size? thought this caused instability.

I can't handle graphical mods yet (crummy video card) but some others:

Sounds of Skyrim (cities, wild, and dungeons) are nice
No kill moves - kill the kill-cam, that got annoying very fast
Sometimes Pickup Books - got tired of reading every book i picked up
Categorized Favorites Menu - Vastly improves the spell/item favorites
Helgen Reborn - I think it's better than Kvatch Rebuilt (it definitely goes faster)

For companions:
EFF - for better companions (also don't forget Vilja!)
Summon Followers - Teleports your lost companions back to you
Follower Trap Safety - Companions don't set off traps

I wish Midas magic (and the extended version) was as good as the Oblivion version.
