2) Try to minimize the amount of mods with scripts that run in the background. Things like Frostfall, RN&Ds, Requiem, SkyRe, Immersive Creatures, etc are constantly running checks on the game state as you play. This leads to greater instability in the game which can mean crashes.

what mods that do not use scripts can replace those mods that you listed. do scripts affect performance

1) Don't uninstall mods and continue to play a save game that was using them. The saves will continue to reference changes those mods make which will inevitably lead to the game crashing. This generally doesn't apply to simple texture/mesh mods.

not that it matters for my current games but would a mod like dense vegetation matter if it was uninstalled

They can't, typically. Mods tend to use scripts because they're adding more functionality. For instance, SkyTEST animals is checking things going on to change the behavior of animals, so they will hunt, run away, etc. (I'm guessing it's hard or impossible to adjust aggressiveness, or that would probably have been done, too). Frostfall is keeping track of effects weather and what you're doing in it. They use up CPU in one of the game's main threads.

Some mods that don't need scripts are even complementary to mods that do similar things and do use them. For example, Enhanced Enemy AI is script-free, and 100% compatible with ASIS, Skyre, and Requiem, so long as you put it just before the other AI mods in the load order.

Probably not, but since it does appear to include mesh changes, and might have other changes nestled in there, somewhere, it wouldn't hurt to go to an interior space, save the game exit, then remove it, and load that save, so you stay out of its effects, just in case (interiors in the game are treated as their own enclosed universes).

I can't handle graphical mods yet (crummy video card)

the r7 amd cards look to be a better deal than nvidia at their price point. i would personally go with the r7 260x but the r7 260 might be a better deal. if you can spend more money though i would buy a nicer card than that. was thinking about buying that card but i did not want to downgrade to a 128 bit bus. make sure you get gddr5 and a 128 bit bus if you can.

I'm waiting for tax returns this year, I'm hoping aftermarket r290 or r280 are out, or whatever nvidia's equivalent are. This 610 was needed because my 8800gt died and I've been out of the loop when it comes to video cards, so I grabbed the cheapest for the moment.

wait to see how the prices go. if they stay the same you might be able to still get a 280x at shopblt for near stock price. thought about buying it myself. wish i could of but i would have had to wait for several more weeks which was too much. i already had no computer to play on since the beginning of december. but now i am mzxing my skyrim mods so wish i could have bought one. not sure about shopblt as i have never bought from them though. the 290x and 290 are also there. a asus 290 is 450 so not sure if it is a moderate mark up or a aftermarket model price.

so i have uninstalled skyrim and then deleted the skyrim folder. then skyrim was reinstalled. did a back up of the whole skyrim folder. deleted the skyrim .ini files and then loaded up skyrim to make options.

uninstalled boss which was in c:boss. what should i do next.

when i loaded up nexus mod manager it only had the official files for the plug ins and load order. but the mods were still there in the other tab and still were counted as activated. can the skyrim folders in nexus mod manager be deleted and then it will come up normally. or should i uninstall nexus mod manager and the reinstall it.

does it matter if i install boss or nexus mod manager first. and where should i install boss

Man, someone should write a step by step guide for how to install Skyrim mods. Maybe even put it in wiki format. That'd be sweet. But... no, wait... How would people find it?

Outside of just dirty Bethsada master files, everything looks good (i.e. BOSS isn't complaining)

Cleaning them shouldn't break anything. I've cleaned them each time after starting a game, and have no problems (as long as I'm away from Whiterun, anyway, but I just can't play w/o distance mods and open cities, now :)). But don't try to clean Skyrim.esm.

Same thing with Oblivion, they got a bit lazy and didn't properly clean the DLC's before release. I don't think you can clean skyrim.esm if you wanted to. Usually dirty mods delete items from the main master file or have duplicate entries, which can lead to problems.
