not bad at all. what's your fav TD?

I think the ISU-152. Almost have the 704, and it will probably become my favorite (actually has armor, while still having the same awesome gun). I don't know if it is just me, but the 704's armor is bouncy as hell, which is why I can't wait for it.

I also love the hellcat. It really is the perfect balance of gun, stealth, and speed. Take 1-2 shots, and relocate... It rules at hit and run + hide, only to ambush again.

yea the 704 is a tad more bouncy than the 268 imo, and the shell velocity is a shit ton faster than the 268. there's absolutely no reason to get the 268 since the great TD nerf. you don't get the extra 100 alpha, traverse and reverse were nerfed bigtime.

now that the camo bonus when firing was removed from TD's, they should give us that extra 100 alpha back......

i'm starting to see a LOT more arty again every match god, i fucking hate arty, needs to be removed from the stupid game

hahhaa.... You just need to learn to play arty and then you can think like an arty player and play against them much easier. Yes, you do have to change your tactics when arty is in play, but it doesn't make things much worse on most maps now (there are a few exceptions).

I played a LOT with the S-51. You learn where you can and can't hit a tank, and where you need to be located on the map relative to your team and the enemy tanks in that arty (otherwise you are fairly useless). Learning those things from the perspective of playing arty, you know those things when you play against them in a tank/TD, which gives you a huge advantage in knowing ahead of time the firing lines for arty relative to their position, and can then play accordingly.

Take last night, for instance. I forget the map name, but it is the one with the two hill/ridges on either side of the map with the middle being a path that has swamps on both sides of a middle road. I was in my KV-1 (which I still love to play), which was top tier, but each side had 3 arty. Knowing this, I knew that the path I needed to take was the south/east path which has a very high hill, and as long as I hugged the hill, arty could not hit me, until I exited at the end near the base of the hill. I got 3 kills and did 1300+ damage, and didn't get hit by a single arty shot, even though I was the slowest, largest, most deadly enemy tank fighting against them, all because I played where they couldn't get a good shot on me.

That doesn't change the fact that if you have 3 arties on the field, as a TD or a heavy your only route of advance on the field automatically become humping mountains/rocks/houses. Flanking routes automatically become a death zone for anything other than mediums and the game is reduced to a camp fest since nobody wants to get gibbed by the T92/conquerer GC.

I play arty a fair bit, and I always punish the adventurous ones that dare venture out into my field of fire.

That's a problem since arty rewards RNG and not skill, and it closes off 75% of the map and renders the only route of attack to the ones behind mountains. This is why the city half of most maps are the preferred sides to be on.

With wargaming flattening out fields and lowering hills, even lumpy covers are no longer safe. What usually ends up happening is people just hide and camp behind big ridges for most of the game because they don't want to get shot by arty, and then at 2 minutes left people make a made dash out and the side that has a luckier arty volley wins. Not to mention that arty does massive damage, so getting shot once usually means game over.

That's not fun. That's stupid. The best games I've had are arty free games since it makes the bumpy maps and hulling down/angling/skill actually matter.

Arty should never have been put in this game, ever. They took the most inaccurate guns of ww2, and turned them into snipers, working as intended comrades. It's obvious that arty was put in the game so everyone (read: no skills) could play and spend money.

But by doing so, i'm sure a LOT of players simply quit cos they got hit by arty, and got tired of it. So, i'm pretty sure the players databases evens out. In the end, we all have to suffer, cos it removes a lot of tactics from the game, and most of the maps landscapes or fields, is pretty much useless.

i do play arty and it's sofa king boring.... click every 40+ seconds
it takes no skill, it's rng dependent

i came to play tanks, not missles from space that you can't retaliate against, so i'll just sit behind a building or rock and not move while avoiding any and all chokepoints for 15min

at least with the LTTB (t-50-2 reborn) i hope we can go back to the days where lights ruined arty the first minute of the game

WG will never allow it IMO. Hell, we cant even get WG to limit how many arty in a battle. People been bitching about that since early beta days. Limit the number to two per side per battle and there would be a lot less bitching about arty. WG refuses to limit them though.

So yeah, I'm not entirely certain that the deathstar has been balanced. I haven't played it in a while. Decided to try it out. 10 HESH and 2 AP loaded.

Did 7k damage, Mark of Excellence, High Calibur, Tank Sniper (6500 of the damage at a range of greater than 300 meters). One shot the following tanks: E-75 (got side of turret), WZ auf PZ IV (hit front of turret), JPanther II (upper plate, but that isn't very strong. I felt sorry for him as he rounded a corner and couldn't get away :p).

Loaded an AP to finish off the MAUS (311 MM of Pen and then you don't have to deal with all the spaced armor the MAUS has).

Got a Mark of Excellence (1 stripe) and I seriously haven't played in a while.

My last game of the night was the 183. I bounced on a 50B when I had AP loaded because I was expecting to face an E100. Then I died.

Where did you hit it? The 50B has a ridiculously bouncy hull (350+ mm of armor in a lot of places, including lower plate). If you hit the turret, I don't know what to say except you got an extremely unlucky angle (at best turret armor is 150mm).

Night ended up pretty good for me. 18 games, 61 percent win rate, 3k WN8. I thought it was going to suck. Had the great game in the 183 to start off, then had 6 losses in a row, despite maintaining over a 2k WN8 in each game so I knew I was contributing. Almost quit at 1 win and 6 losses, but glad I didn't as I started getting some good games. Made a lot of money too because I got a win in almost all of my premiums.

I am going down that line too. I am at the SU-152. have the ISU unlocked but short of coin. can't wait to get there :)

yea the isu and 704 are awesome
if you really want the 268 badly, i'd wait until it hits the ontrack to get it at a discount cuz it's just not worth it anymore

I'm trying to decide what to go for next. My options i'm looking at (in terms of interest) is M41 Walker Bulldog, RU-251, OBJ 704, VK 42.05b or STB-1. Obviously STB-1 would be the longest grind, as it is both Tier X and I haven't done anything with the Japanese yet. But it looks like a fun medium. Easiest to get to would be the VK, and I like the look of all that frontal armor for trolling people with, but I also already have the E75.

I probably would go with the VK line. looks like good fun to me. the Japanese line doesn't become really fun until the STA-1. the are pretty unforgiving so if you make a mistake you get stuck and blown up quick. the type 61 and STB-1 just add some more HP and upgraded gun.

I'm pretty much at the Tiger P (5k more experience), which is why that line would be easiest. I'm just worried it isn't different enough from the E-75 line to be fun.

One advantage I was just thinking of though is that with the Russian TD line, I'll have a three crew skill crew available for the OBJ 704 when I get to it from my SU 100y. I've played my box tank a lot. I love that thing. 65% win rate in it over a solid amount of games (214). I'm in the SU-100 right now.

For the rest, nothing in Japanese, Luchs for RU-152, and Stock Chaffee (haven't bought it yet) for the Walker Bulldog.

stb1, i'm enjoying mine a lot, need a lot of patience and skill to play it well. it's not forgiving at all like the russian meds

Yeah STB1 is probably what I actually want most. 10 degrees of gun depression is something I would like to play with. I just hate having to grind from zero (well, I'd free XP at least to Tier IV) is the only thing holding me back really, since I'm at least somewhat there on all the other things I'm interested in.

I have no life. Killed 100 heavy tanks for the Heavy Duty mission. Finished the On Track for T110E3, 250k XP using 3 tanks. Wolverine, Jackson, and T28. No time to do 25 rounds of 1500 damage/block or I would do that too. :)

Which made me decide on not keeping the Wolverine, I just can't win games in it. I can do well in it, damage wise but not enough to win more than 50% games.

I have Wolverine and Jackson already on hand. The T28 I used I came from T28 Prototype. So, I didn't have to deal with that T25AT. Not really caring much about the T28 itself. I like the T28 Prototype, not keeping it but was a boss hull down in tier 8 games.

Heh, yeah I've done that a lot :p

I just don't have the loads of free XP I usually do. In part because I've been busy at work and not playing as much, but also because I've been accelerating crew training on a lot of my favorite tanks. So instead of the usual 300-400k of free xp I have saved by the time I've decided it's time to push for a new tank, I only have about 90k right now.
