The American People have received bupkiss from the bailouts. That's the problem. They would not have been harmed if the Democrats refused to support the bailouts.
If your talking about the legislation in general this is obviously wildly untrue.

$600 extra in unemployment benefits per week for example is truly a big deal for those on the bottom of the economic ladder in terms of their economic situations in many cases. (Even if there are problems with implementation in some states.) The fact unemployment was extended to also covers gig workers is a big deal and impacts allot of low wager workers who had gig jobs with Uber and Lyft and the like. Even in states where there have been problems with the implementation, the extra money generally should be coming soon.

The $1200 stimulus is also more significant for those lower on the economic ladder in terms of its impact. The Democrats even got that implemented so it gets phased out and eliminated completely for those in upper income categories. (The fact it was a flat amount as opposed to something like based on a percentage of last year's income or something should be viewed as a a victory for a more progressive policy.) Even with the issues with the details of who it applied to and the like, it still made a difference for allot of Americans and at least in many cases is reaching people relatively quickly. There are other policies which could be viewed as being progressive included in the bill, along with some which at least did keep more Americans employed.

The underlying reality is particularly the policies I mentioned made a big difference for allot of Americans and the idea that if Congressional gridlock had caused nothing to get passed by now that would not have harmed allot of Americans by now is plainly utterly ridiculous. (We're talking about people literally homeless or about to be evicted in much greater numbers than may be the case right now and literally starving in the streets if nothing had been done.)

You can certainly argue whether Democrats should have held out for more in earlier negotiations, but if you are claiming there would have been no consequences if nothing had been passed by now you are not vaguely in touch with reality.

We keep making the mistake of thinking that Republicans are accountable to voters. They are not—they are only accountable to donors.

The donors are the only ones who matter.

Not really. The GOP is ultimately accountable to the voters they've bamboozled all to Hell & gone. That's the catch.

Unfortunately, the (R)'s and their donors never have a problem convincing the voters that everything wrong in their lives is the fault of the libruls and Democrats...and they buy it, lock, stock, and barrel.

This election should be particularly troublesome for them, I think. They own this unfolding catastrophe & everybody knows it. Their traditional wedge issues probably won't gain much traction this time around. They're all gambling big on reopening the economy & keeping the virus from going Medieval on us at the same time. I don't see how that can possibly work but that's the way it'll be. Lots of illusions will be shattered between now & the election, I figure.

Unfortunately, there are some in this country who will still blame it all on the Demonrats. They were told to stay home, all the Dems fault. They were told by their God-Emperor that they needed to sacrifice themselves and grandma for the good of the God-Emperor's chance of being reelected so he stays out of prison longer, all a ploy by the Dems to hurt the God-Emperor. GOP controlled states opening back up early and causing COVID-19 to spread among their citizens, somehow this will be the fault of the Dems too.

No matter what happens to them the people who vote GOP are going to vote for the same people that they have always voted for, they don't seem to care that the party that they always vote for is trying to kill them.

Like filthy immigrants?

Floriduh is apparently a clusterfuck, unsurprisingly. I'm sure it varies entirely state to state.

Yup, I had to navigate this horrible system in 2013 just after Rick Scott installed it, it crashed often even under the relatively light usage at the time, now, according to an insider who works for DEO applicants work history just gets "lost" in the system resulting in an ineligible result, https://wsvn.com/news/local/state-e...ehind-delays-in-floridas-unemployment-system/

My grandson is in CA, has been off work for 6 weeks and STILL hasn't gotten his unemployment straightened out. He has a fax confirmation for the packet they required him to send...but they say they have no record of it.

Hopefully it's a correctable situation in CA, here in FL the unemployment fund's were dried out in the 2008 collapse so then-elect governor Rick Scott, rather than bump rates a bit to replenish it, decided to make it as tough as possible to begin collecting to begin with. Local state DEO offices were closed, the system became online-only, (with no phone app's). I had to list five contacts for every week claimed, soon you ran out of positions you were qualified for or anyone was currently hiring. Then the weeks available dropped to 12, less than half the rest of the country, the weeks available is tied to the current unemployment rate which can only be updated once annually, in the 3rd quarter, those collecting now in FL will have to get the federal $600/wk once they get past 12.

Republican controlled states are part of this too. They have been cutting off furrowed workers from food stamps and denying continuing unemployment benefits because of that $1200 Trump check and that $600 monthly bonus. So, with the unemployed getting those piddly funds, republican controlled states feel they can end unemployment for workers unable to work because of the virus. SEE HOW THEY ARE.....

The $1200 stimulus is not income, so they legally can't use that against them as it is a tax credit. The $600 PER WEEK is tied to unemployment. Meaning that they have to qualify for unemployment. So if they cut of unemployment (not sure if they legally can), they also cut off the extra $600 per week for those people. I'm sure it is going to help their economy in those states by making such a dick move, and I'm sure we will see many lawsuits filed on the unemployed people's behalf.

If I lived in any state that even tried to cut off unemployment, legal or not, before jobs have returned to an acceptable level, I would be sure to vote the bastards out of office.

The whole situation sucks. My wife works in trade show industry. I can't imagine she's working anytime this year. Not like she can find work with another company in her industry since they are all shutdown. So fuck Mitch.

One of my brothers-in-law works in that industry too. Fairly high paying job at middle management level. He's been laid off indefinitely. Who knows when we'll have trade shows again as that restriction will be one of the last to be lifted.

The republicans just don't want to admit that the economy is destroyed and won't come back for another 18+ months. They also don't want to admit that Trump killed it because of his hamfisted approach (denial isn't a strategy). If they had any compassion, there would be a 12 month extended unemployment relief package to help people stay on their feet while the economy recovers. Animals.

Nothing but competent stewardship of the taxpayers money by this administration. Dead people should never be denied their rights.

What the fuck is this happy horseshit? $1.8 Billion gone just like that.
